Ingredients

  • 1 medium-sized Sweet Pumpkin
  • 300g Brown Sugar

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, sterilize your glass jars by boiling them in water for 10 minutes. This step is crucial to prevent the growth of microorganisms or mold, ensuring your jam stays fresh for longer.

Step 1

Step 2

Wash the sweet pumpkin thoroughly under running water. Then, cut it into half-moon shapes, about 3cm thick. If the pumpkin is hard to cut, you can microwave it for 2-3 minutes to soften it, making slicing much easier.

Step 2

Step 3

Using a spoon, scoop out the seeds from the pumpkin halves. Then, peel the skin off using a vegetable peeler or a knife.

Step 3

Step 4

You don’t need to peel the pumpkin completely. Just remove the tough outer layer of the skin. The softer inner flesh can be left as is.

Step 4

Step 5

Place the peeled sweet pumpkin pieces in the microwave and cook for about 7 minutes, until tender. Once softened, cut the pumpkin into small cubes.

Step 5

Step 6

Add the cubed sweet pumpkin to a saucepan and sprinkle the brown sugar evenly over it.

Step 6

Step 7

Set the heat to medium-low and stir well to combine the sweet pumpkin and sugar. As the sugar melts, it will start to release its juices.

Step 7

Step 8

Transfer the mixture to a blender or use an immersion blender to puree the cooked pumpkin and sugar mixture until smooth. Using an immersion blender makes this process even easier as you can blend directly in the pot.

Step 8

Step 9

Return the pumpkin puree to the saucepan and cook over medium-low heat, stirring continuously. It’s important to stir frequently to prevent the mixture from sticking to the bottom. The jam will start as quite thin but will thicken considerably as it cooks down.

Step 9

Step 10

Once the jam reaches your desired consistency, turn off the heat. Carefully pour the hot jam into the sterilized glass jars. Your smooth, sweet, and delicious homemade sweet pumpkin jam is now ready!
