Homemade Tomato Juice
Super Simple & Delicious Homemade Tomato Juice Recipe (feat. Plum Extract)
Discover the easiest, simplest, and most delicious way to enjoy tomatoes: by making fresh tomato juice at home. With a touch of plum extract, you can achieve a naturally sweet and flavorful beverage that’s both healthy and delightful.
Fresh Tomato Juice Essentials- 5-6 ripe tomatoes
- 1-2 Tbsp plum extract (adjust to taste)
- 1 tsp olive oil (optional)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Thoroughly wash the fresh tomatoes under running water. Carefully remove the hard stem end, as it can be a bit tough and detract from the smoothness of your juice.
Step 2
Make a shallow cross-shaped incision on the top and bottom of each tomato with a knife. This scoring will help the skins slip off much more easily after blanching.
Step 3
Carefully place the scored tomatoes into boiling water and blanch them for about 30 seconds to 1 minute, just until you see the skins starting to loosen. Blanching makes peeling effortless and results in a much smoother, more palatable juice.
Step 4
Immediately transfer the blanched tomatoes to a bowl of ice-cold water to stop the cooking process and cool them down. You’ll notice the skins have already started to separate, thanks to the blanching. Cooling them rapidly makes the peeling process even quicker.
Step 5
Once slightly cooled, gently peel the skins off the tomatoes, starting from the base. While you can blend with the skins on, removing them creates a wonderfully smooth juice that’s free from any gritty texture, even when blended thoroughly.
Step 6
The blanched tomatoes are soft enough to be blended whole, so no need to chop them. You can use a blender or an immersion blender. For an optional health boost and richer flavor, add about 1 teaspoon of olive oil. Olive oil helps with the absorption of fat-soluble vitamins in tomatoes and adds a subtle richness, but feel free to omit it if you prefer.
Step 7
Now, let’s add the star ingredient that elevates this tomato juice: plum extract! Add 1 to 2 tablespoons, adjusting to your sweetness preference. Plum extract balances the natural tartness of tomatoes with a gentle sweetness and a lovely aroma, making the juice truly delicious. This trick works wonders for other juices too, like aronia, yam, or strawberry juice!
Step 8
Blend all the ingredients until completely smooth using your blender or immersion blender. Since the tomatoes were blanched, they will break down quickly into a silky consistency. Once you achieve a smooth texture with no lumps, your homemade tomato juice is ready!
Step 9
And there you have it – a perfectly balanced, sweet and tangy homemade tomato juice! Each sip is incredibly refreshing and revitalizing, making it a wonderful way to enjoy the goodness of tomatoes. This delicious juice is so satisfying, you’ll find yourself wanting more!
