Ingredients- 1 Grapefruit
- 4 Tbsp Honey
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Start by washing your grapefruit thoroughly under running water. Then, carefully use a knife to peel off the outer skin. Removing the pith will help reduce bitterness and result in a cleaner flavor, especially when making it into tea.
Step 2
After peeling the outer skin, stand the grapefruit upright and slice off the top and bottom ends. This creates a flat surface, making it easier to peel. Now, carefully run your knife down the sides of the grapefruit, following its natural curve, to remove the white pith. It’s important to remove as much of this white layer as possible, as it contributes significantly to the bitterness.
Step 3
When peeling the grapefruit, handle it gently to avoid damaging the segments. The white pith can often be found clinging to the segments themselves. Use your knife or fingers to meticulously remove it. Starting the peel from the inside of the fruit can make separating the segments easier and prevent them from breaking apart.
Step 4
Once the grapefruit is thoroughly prepared, you can either separate the segments into bite-sized pieces or simply cut it in half. Sprinkle the 4 tablespoons of honey evenly over the grapefruit segments. You can adjust the amount of honey based on the size of your grapefruit and your personal preference for sweetness. Let the honey-macerated grapefruit sit in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes. This allows the honey to infuse into the fruit, creating a smoother, more mellow flavor.
Step 5
Enjoy half of the honey-macerated grapefruit as is. The delightful combination of sweet honey and tangy grapefruit will burst with flavor in your mouth. It’s also a satisfying option for a light dinner replacement, providing a sense of fullness.
Step 6
For the other half, transform it into a refreshing grapefruit tea. Place the prepared honey grapefruit into a mug or teapot. Pour hot water over it for a warm tea, or use cold water if you prefer a chilled beverage. The sweetness can be adjusted by adding more honey to your liking, or by changing the amount of water, allowing you to create your perfect, personalized grapefruit tea.
