How to Boil Potatoes for a Fluffy Texture
Achieve Perfectly Fluffy and Delicious Boiled Potatoes with This Simple Method!
Hello everyone, it’s Yeongppang! Summer is here, and fresh potatoes are abundant. That’s why I’ve prepared this recipe for boiling potatoes! I’ll show you how to make them wonderfully fluffy. I often boil a large batch of potatoes to enjoy as a snack or even for lunch, as they’re a dish I never get tired of! Especially, eating warm, fluffy potatoes is incredibly satisfying, isn’t it? So, I’ve put together this super simple guide so you can all enjoy perfectly boiled potatoes! Let’s get started!
Ingredients
- 4-5 medium-sized potatoes
- 1 Tbsp salt
- Water, as needed (enough to cover potatoes)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Carefully peel the potatoes. Use a knife to gently remove any eyes or sprouts. Rinse the potatoes thoroughly under running water once or twice.
Step 2
Place the prepared potatoes in a pot. Add enough water to completely submerge the potatoes. (I used approximately 500-700ml.)
Step 3
The water level should be sufficient to cover the potatoes comfortably without them being too crowded. Check that the potatoes are submerged in the water as shown in the picture.
Step 4
Boil the potatoes over medium heat for about 30 minutes. After about 15 minutes, check on the potatoes. If the water has evaporated too much, you can add a little more water. Once the water starts to reduce, add 1 tablespoon of salt and increase the heat to high. This step helps to evaporate excess moisture, contributing to a chewier texture.
Step 5
Put on kitchen gloves and gently shake the pot. The idea is to let the potatoes bump against each other. This helps them cook evenly and develop a slightly chewy exterior. (Tip: I ended up eating one potato midway because it was done sooner while I was taking pictures! That’s why there are only 4 in the photo now. haha)
Step 6
And that’s it for boiling potatoes! I like to transfer the boiled potatoes to a bowl, top them with cheese, and microwave them for about 30-40 seconds. It’s surprisingly delicious! You get to enjoy both cheese and potatoes. While eating them with just a pinch of salt is good, pairing them with cheese offers a different, delightful flavor. This is just my personal preference, so feel free to adjust it to your liking!
