How to Boil Sweet Corn Perfectly
Nutritious Snack: How to Prepare and Boil Corn for the Best Flavor!
We received some delicious chewy sweet corn, directly grown by my husband’s family. I’m sharing a simple preparation method and how to boil corn to taste just like the ones you find at rest stops! Enjoy this nutritious and tasty snack at home.
Ingredients- 15 Chewy Sweet Corns
Boiling Liquid- 2L Water
- 2 Tbsp Fine Salt (approx. 30g)
- 1/2 Tbsp Sugar Substitute (like New Sugar) or Sugar (approx. 7g)
- 2L Water
- 2 Tbsp Fine Salt (approx. 30g)
- 1/2 Tbsp Sugar Substitute (like New Sugar) or Sugar (approx. 7g)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Prepare 15 ears of chewy sweet corn. It’s important to select corn that isn’t too dry and is fresh.
Step 2
I’ll share a special technique to easily remove all the silk at once. Peel back about 2-3 layers of the outer husk. Then, grasp the center part where the silk is located firmly with your hand and pull it down forcefully in one motion. The trick is to pull gently to avoid damaging the kernels. Remove the remaining silk in the same way. Finally, trim off a small portion of the husk from the tip of the corn cob. You’re done with the prep!
Step 3
Rinse the prepared corn under cold running water, ensuring all husks and remaining silk are removed. Arrange the washed corn snugly in a pot. Try not to overcrowd the pot, as this helps the corn cook evenly.
Step 4
In a large pot, add 2L of water. Stir in 2 tablespoons of fine salt and 1/2 tablespoon of New Sugar until dissolved. If you prefer a sweeter taste, you can substitute the New Sugar with regular sugar. The salt enhances the natural sweetness of the corn, while the sugar makes it even sweeter and chewier.
Step 5
Pour the prepared seasoned water over the corn in the pot. The corn should be mostly submerged in the water. Adjust the water level as needed to ensure the corn is well covered.
Step 6
Now, let’s boil the corn to perfection! Cover the pot and bring it to a boil over high heat for 15 minutes. After 15 minutes, carefully turn the corn over to ensure even cooking. This helps to ensure that the corn at the top and bottom cook equally. Cover the pot again, reduce the heat to medium-low, and simmer for another 15 minutes. After a total of 30 minutes of boiling, don’t open the lid immediately. Turn off the heat and let the corn steam for 5 minutes. This steaming process allows the flavors to deepen and the corn to become more tender.
Step 7
Once the steaming is complete, carefully transfer the corn to a colander to drain any excess water. Be cautious as they will be hot!
Step 8
Voila! Your chewy and sweet corn is ready, rivaling the taste of corn from rest stops. It’s best enjoyed warm. This makes a perfect snack for kids or a delightful treat to go with beer for adults!
