  • 5 small broccoli heads (equivalent to 3 regular-sized heads)
  • 2 tablespoons vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon salt (for blanching)
  • 2-3 small ziplock bags (for portioning and storage)

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, prepare 5 small broccoli heads for this recipe. If you are using regular-sized broccoli, about 3 heads should be sufficient.

Step 2

In a bowl large enough to fully submerge the broccoli, fill it with water. Add 1 tablespoon of vinegar and mix well. Place a lid or a plate on top of the broccoli to keep it submerged in the vinegar water. Let it soak for 10 minutes to loosen any dirt or impurities. After 10 minutes, gently shake the broccoli by its stem in the water, then rinse it under cold running water, shaking it as you rinse, about 2 more times for a thorough clean.

Step 3

Trim the tough bottom part of the washed broccoli, then cut the florets into bite-sized pieces. Avoid cutting them too small, as they might break apart when cooked.

Step 4

Don’t discard the stem! Peel off the tough outer layer of the stem and chop it finely. It’s a great addition to stir-fries (like potato or sausage stir-fries) or omelets, adding both texture and nutrients.

Step 5

Bring a pot of water to a rolling boil. Add 1 teaspoon of salt and 1 tablespoon of vinegar. Once boiling, carefully add the cut broccoli florets and blanch for exactly 30 seconds. Blanching for too long can make the broccoli mushy and reduce its nutritional value.

Step 6

Immediately after blanching, transfer the broccoli to a bowl of cold water and rinse them by shaking gently, about 2 times. This rapid cooling stops the cooking process and helps remove any residue. Drain the broccoli well on a colander, allowing excess water to drip off.

Step 7

Once the broccoli is well-drained, portion it into small ziplock bags according to how much you typically use in one meal. Press out as much air as possible from the bags before sealing and freezing them. Stored this way, broccoli can maintain its freshness for quite a long time! To use, simply soak the frozen broccoli in cold water for a short while to thaw, then cook it in your desired dish. Enjoy!
