Main Ingredients

  • 20 Frozen Meatballs
  • 1 packet Gravy Sauce Powder
  • 150ml Milk
  • Fresh Cranberries (or Lingonberry Jam)
  • 1 Apple
  • Apple Juice (approx. 1-1.5 cups)
  • 1 Lemon (or 1 Orange)
  • Agave Syrup (or Sugar, Honey)
  • 4 Potatoes
  • 3 Tbsp Butter
  • 1/3 cup Milk (for mashed potatoes)
  • Salt (to taste)

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

Take out the IKEA meatballs from the freezer and the gravy sauce powder from the pantry. These are the core ingredients for a wonderful meal.

Step 1

Step 2

These are fresh cranberries I bought a while ago and kept in the fresh compartment. Thanks to the compartment’s function, they’ve stayed relatively fresh. While lingonberry jam is ideal, you can make an excellent sauce with fresh cranberries if you don’t have it. The combination of savory meatballs and sweet and sour lingonberry jam (or cranberry sauce) is fantastic, so be sure to prepare it!

Step 2

Step 3

Select fresh cranberries and wash them thoroughly. Place the cranberries in a pot and add enough apple juice to cover them. Dice one medium apple and add it to the pot along with slices of one lemon (or orange). Remember to remove seeds and the core from the lemon or orange, as they can impart a bitter taste.

Step 3

Step 4

Heat the pot and, once the ingredients begin to bubble, add agave syrup to adjust the sweetness to your liking. It’s important to customize the sweetness based on your preference.

Step 4

Step 5

If you don’t have agave syrup, you can use any sweetener you have at home, such as sugar, honey, or maple syrup. I’ve been using agave syrup frequently in my cooking lately; it adds a pleasant, mild sweetness.

Step 5

Step 6

Once the cranberries start boiling, reduce the heat to low. Stir continuously to prevent sticking and simmer gently. Cranberries naturally thicken as they cook, becoming jam-like. Turn off the heat, let it cool completely, then refrigerate for a chilled sauce.

Step 6

Step 7

Peel and wash the four potatoes. Dice them into small cubes and place them in a pot to boil. Cook until the potatoes are tender enough to be easily pierced with a fork.

Step 7

Step 8

Mash the well-cooked potatoes or pass them through a sieve for a smoother consistency. Add 3 tablespoons of butter and 1/3 cup of milk, then mash them together until smooth. Finally, season with about five pinches of salt for very light seasoning. Remember, since you’ll be serving with gravy sauce, avoid over-salting to maintain a good flavor balance.

Step 8

Step 9

Use the frozen meatballs directly without thawing. Heat a pan over medium heat, add 3 tablespoons of olive oil, and brown the meatballs on all sides until golden. Searing them over medium-high heat quickly helps to lock in the juices.

Step 9

Step 10

Once the meatballs are browned, pour in 1/2 cup of water and stir once.

Step 10

Step 11

Cover the pan and bring to a boil, then reduce the heat to medium and cook for another 5 to 10 minutes. This step ensures the meatballs are tender and juicy.

Step 11

Step 12

To make the gravy sauce, combine 150ml of milk with 1 packet of gravy sauce powder in a saucepan and whisk well. Bring to a boil over medium heat, then reduce to low. Stir continuously until it thickens to your desired consistency, then remove from heat. Be careful to stir constantly to avoid lumps.

Step 12

Step 13

Arrange the warm meatballs, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, and a fresh salad on a plate. Finally, generously ladle the warm gravy sauce over the meatballs.

Step 13

Step 14

The creamy mashed potatoes and the flavorful gravy sauce create a perfect harmony. This combination is truly a winner!

Step 14

Step 15

Admire the beautifully plated mashed potatoes and gravy sauce. The presentation alone is mouthwatering.

Step 15

Step 16

The disappointment of running out of lingonberry jam is compensated by the fresh, sweet, and tart cranberry sauce. The pairing of savory meatballs and zesty cranberry sauce is also absolutely perfect! You must try this fantastic flavor combination.

Step 16

Step 17

This is a splendid meal, ready in a flash! It’s a joy to enjoy the excellent taste at home, just as good as what you’d find at the IKEA restaurant. I hope you had a delicious time enjoying these IKEA meatballs and gravy sauce.
