Garlic Rusk Ingredients

  • Bread crusts (or leftover bread) 70g
  • Unsalted butter 30g
  • Granulated sugar 1 Tbsp
  • Water 1 Tbsp
  • Minced garlic 1 Tbsp (using freshly minced garlic will enhance the flavor)
  • Dried parsley flakes, a pinch (for garnish)

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, prepare your bread crusts or any stale bread ends you have left over from making sandwiches. Cut these bread pieces into manageable chunks, about 3-4 cm in size. Cutting them too small might cause them to break apart easily, so aim for a good bite-sized piece.

Step 1

Step 2

Heat a dry pan over medium-low heat without adding any oil. Place the cut bread pieces into the pan and toast them, flipping occasionally, until they turn a nice golden brown color on all sides. This step is crucial for achieving a wonderfully crispy rusk and preventing sogginess. Once toasted, transfer the bread pieces to a separate plate and let them cool completely.

Step 2

Step 3

Now, let’s make that delicious garlic sauce! Over low heat, melt 30g of butter in a preheated pan. Once the butter has melted, add 1 Tbsp of granulated sugar, 1 Tbsp of water, and 1 Tbsp of minced garlic. Stir well to combine all the ingredients. Continue stirring gently over low heat until the sugar dissolves and the garlic’s aroma infuses into the butter. Be careful not to burn the garlic!

Step 3

Step 4

Add the cooled, toasted bread pieces back into the pan with the prepared garlic sauce. Gently toss the bread pieces to ensure they are evenly coated with the sauce. Use chopsticks or a spatula, being careful not to break the bread. Coating every surface of the bread is key.

Step 4

Step 5

This is the final step! Remove the pan from the heat. Sprinkle a pinch of dried parsley flakes over the rusks for a touch of color and added aroma. Toss lightly one more time to distribute the parsley evenly. Congratulations, you’ve just made irresistibly crispy and addictive garlic rusks! Let them cool completely and store them in an airtight container to maintain their crispiness for several days.
