Ingredients for Kongnamul Rice- 300g fresh bean sprouts
- 1 egg (optional)
Ingredients for Seasoning Sauce- 6 Tbsp soy sauce
- 1 Tbsp finely chopped cheongyang chili pepper (adjust to spice preference)
- 1 Tbsp finely chopped green onion
- 1 Tbsp minced garlic
- 1 Tbsp gochugaru (Korean chili powder)
- 1 tsp sesame oil
- 1 tsp toasted sesame seeds
- 6 Tbsp soy sauce
- 1 Tbsp finely chopped cheongyang chili pepper (adjust to spice preference)
- 1 Tbsp finely chopped green onion
- 1 Tbsp minced garlic
- 1 Tbsp gochugaru (Korean chili powder)
- 1 tsp sesame oil
- 1 tsp toasted sesame seeds
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, wash the bean sprouts thoroughly under running water. Place the cleaned bean sprouts in a pot and add enough water to cover them. Cover the pot and begin to cook. It’s best not to open the lid while cooking to prevent the characteristic smell of bean sprouts from escaping. You can also start cooking with the lid off if you prefer.
Step 2
Prepare the vegetables for the seasoning sauce. Finely mince 2 cloves of garlic. Finely chop 1 cheongyang chili pepper and 1/4 green onion. (Tip: Using chives or scallions instead of green onions can add a different delicious aroma.)
Step 3
In a bowl, combine 6 tablespoons of soy sauce. Add the finely chopped cheongyang chili pepper (1 Tbsp), finely chopped green onion (1 Tbsp), minced garlic (1 Tbsp), and gochugaru (1 Tbsp). Finally, stir in 1 teaspoon of sesame oil and 1 teaspoon of toasted sesame seeds for added richness.
Step 4
Mix all the prepared seasoning sauce ingredients together thoroughly until well combined. This pre-made sauce will elevate the flavor of your Kongnamul-bap. (Tip: You can add a little sugar or corn syrup for a touch of sweetness if desired.)
Step 5
When the bean sprouts turn translucent and emit a crisp sound, they are fully cooked. Drain the cooked bean sprouts completely in a sieve. Place the drained bean sprouts over a bowl of warm rice. Top with a fried egg if you like, and then generously spoon the delicious seasoning sauce over everything. Mix well, and your fantastic Kongnamul-bap is ready!
Step 6
Kongnamul-bap is a simple yet nutritious and incredibly tasty dish! The satisfying crunch of the bean sprouts combined with the savory depth of the seasoning sauce will have you finishing your bowl in no time. A well-made seasoning sauce truly doubles the deliciousness of Kongnamul-bap, so be sure to give it a try!
