Main Ingredients

  • 1/2 block firm tofu
  • 6 leaves perilla leaves (깻잎)
  • 6 stalks chicory
  • 6 stalks baby bok choy
  • 6 imitation crab sticks (맛살)
  • 1/2 cup store-bought peanut sauce

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

Since this is a super simple and speedy dish, the instructions are just as straightforward! First, wash all your vegetables thoroughly and make sure to pat them completely dry. Slice the tofu into pieces similar in size to the imitation crab sticks (about 1cm thick). Lightly oil a pan and pan-fry the tofu until golden brown on both sides. That’s all the prep work for your ingredients! Now, let’s get rolling.

Step 1

Step 2

Lay out one sheet of rice paper (or soy paper) on a clean surface. Arrange the ingredients in the following order: one perilla leaf, some baby bok choy, chicory, an imitation crab stick, and finally, the pan-fried tofu. Feel free to adjust the types and amounts of vegetables to your liking.

Step 2

Step 3

Once all your ingredients are placed, fold the bottom edge of the rice paper up and over the filling. Then, fold in the sides, and finally, roll it up tightly from the bottom to the top. If using rice paper, briefly dip it in warm water to soften it before filling and rolling for easier handling. Soy paper can be used directly without pre-soaking.

Step 3

Step 4

Arrange the beautifully completed salad rolls on a serving plate, perhaps in a circular pattern. Pour the store-bought peanut sauce into a small dipping bowl on the side.

Step 4

Step 5

When ready to eat, each person can take a small spoonful of the peanut sauce and dip their salad roll into it to enhance the flavor. Adjust the amount of sauce according to your preference.

Step 5

Step 6

This recipe makes about 6 rolls for 2 servings, and even just eating 3 rolls each is incredibly satisfying and filling. Here’s a crucial tip for presentation and taste: using chicory adds a wonderful crisp texture and an elegant look, so we highly recommend it! The wrapper I used is called ‘soy paper,’ but rice paper works just as deliciously. If you need a simple yet impressive dish for guests, these rolls are perfect as finger food for parties. They also make a great snack when you’re feeling peckish or a healthy option for a diet meal.
