Main Ingredients- 1 whole loaf of bread (thick-cut bread recommended)
- 2 Tbsp cooking oil (or butter)
- 3 Tbsp maple syrup (or honey)
- 1 Tbsp sliced almonds (for garnish)
Moist Egg Batter- 2 large eggs
- 1 Tbsp dried parsley flakes
- Pinch of black pepper (freshly ground pepper adds more flavor)
- Pinch of salt (helps remove eggy smell)
- 1/4 cup milk (approx. 60ml)
- 1 Tbsp heavy cream (optional, for extra richness)
- 2 large eggs
- 1 Tbsp dried parsley flakes
- Pinch of black pepper (freshly ground pepper adds more flavor)
- Pinch of salt (helps remove eggy smell)
- 1/4 cup milk (approx. 60ml)
- 1 Tbsp heavy cream (optional, for extra richness)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Let’s start by preparing the luscious egg batter. In a bowl, crack in 2 large eggs. Add 1/4 cup of milk, 1 Tbsp of dried parsley flakes, a pinch of pepper, and a pinch of salt. For an even richer and more decadent flavor, you can also add 1 Tbsp of heavy cream. Whisk everything together gently with a whisk or fork until well combined.
Step 2
Next, we’ll slice the bread into serving portions. Take your whole loaf of bread and carefully cut it into 6 equal pieces using a serrated knife. It’s best to cut the bread about 2-3 cm thick. If the slices are too thin, they might fall apart easily. Thicker slices will absorb more of the egg mixture, resulting in a moister French toast.
Step 3
Now it’s time to soak the bread slices in the egg mixture. Dip each bread slice into the prepared batter. Let each side soak for about 10 seconds, ensuring the egg mixture is absorbed evenly. Be careful not to soak them for too long, or they might become too soggy and fall apart. Coating all sides thoroughly is key for the best texture.
Step 4
Time to cook the egg-coated bread until golden brown! Heat a non-stick skillet over medium heat and add 2 Tbsp of cooking oil. Place the soaked bread slices onto the hot pan. Cook one side until it’s beautifully golden brown, then flip it over and cook the other side similarly. Continue cooking each side for about 2-3 minutes, or until all sides are a lovely golden-brown color. This process will give you a French toast that’s crispy on the outside and wonderfully moist on the inside. Keep an eye on the heat to prevent burning.
Step 5
Arrange the perfectly cooked French toast on a plate. Drizzle generously with 3 Tbsp of maple syrup. If you prefer, honey is also a delicious alternative. The sweet syrup will soak into the bread, enhancing its flavor profile.
Step 6
Finally, sprinkle 1 Tbsp of sliced almonds over the French toast for a delightful crunch and nutty aroma. The crunchy almonds provide a wonderful contrast to the sweet and soft French toast. Serve immediately while warm for the best experience!
