Moist and Tender Butter-Basted Salmon Steak
Easy Homemade Butter-Basted Salmon Steak Recipe (Worry-Free Calories!)
Hello everyone! Today, I’ll show you how to easily make a glistening, moist, and tender salmon steak at home. We’ll be using a special technique called ‘basting’ to infuse the salmon with the rich flavor of butter. Basting is a magical technique where you continuously spoon melted butter or juices over the ingredients while cooking to keep them moist and flavorful. It enhances the natural taste of the ingredients while elevating the dish to a more sophisticated level. It’s incredibly easy to make, so why not create a wonderful meal for your weekend or a special occasion!
Main Ingredients
- 200g Fresh Salmon Fillet
- 30g Butter
- 1/2 Lemon
- 1 Tbsp Minced Garlic
- 1 sprig Fresh Rosemary (or 1/2 tsp dried rosemary)
- 5-6 Asparagus Spears
- 5-6 Cherry Tomatoes
- 2-3 Button Mushrooms
- Pinch of Salt
- Pinch of Black Pepper
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, rinse the salmon fillet under running water and pat it thoroughly dry with paper towels. Removing excess moisture helps the steak achieve a crispy exterior when cooked and prevents oil splattering. Then, season both sides of the salmon generously with salt and pepper. Let it marinate for at least 5 minutes to allow the seasoning to penetrate for enhanced flavor.
Step 2
Now, let’s get ready to cook. Heat a pan over medium-low heat and add the 30g of butter to the center. It’s important to control the heat to prevent the butter from burning.
Step 3
Once the butter starts to melt in the pan, reduce the heat further to low. Make sure the butter melts smoothly without burning.
Step 4
Add the minced garlic (1 Tbsp), fresh rosemary sprig (or 1/2 tsp dried rosemary), and half a lemon, cut into slices, to the melted butter in the pan. The aroma of garlic and rosemary will infuse into the butter, making your salmon steak’s flavor deeper and more sophisticated. The lemon will add a fragrant citrus note as it cooks.
Step 5
Place the seasoned salmon in the center of the pan, and arrange the prepared asparagus, cherry tomatoes, and button mushrooms around it. It’s time to start butter basting! Once the butter is melted and a fragrant aroma rises from the hot pan, use a ladle or spoon to scoop the melted butter and aromatics and pour them over the salmon 3-4 times. Repeating this process will make the salmon surface moist and glossy, deeply infusing it with the buttery flavor. The vegetables will also cook alongside, adding their delicious taste.
Step 6
Once one side of the salmon is golden brown, flip it over and cook the other side using the same basting method. Adjust the heat between medium and low, and continue basting to ensure the salmon cooks through evenly and remains moist inside. Salmon steak can become dry if overcooked, so remove it from the heat when the exterior is golden and the inside is tender. The vegetables should also be cooked to perfection!
