Made with a mother’s utmost care for her child’s health, this homemade Spam is a safe alternative to store-bought versions. With simple ingredients and an easy-to-follow recipe, you can whip up this healthy homemade ham anytime!
Main Ingredients- 500g Ground Pork (lean cut recommended)
- 1 Tbsp Fine Salt
- 0.5 Tbsp Sugar
- 2 Tbsp Potato Starch
- 1 Tbsp Minced Garlic
- 50ml Water
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, prepare 500g of ground pork. Gently press with paper towels to remove excess blood. This step is crucial for a clean taste without any gamey odor.
Step 2
If you have a blender or food processor, grind the pork mixture once more until very fine. This process will result in a smoother, more tender Spam. (Optional)
Step 3
To the ground pork (after draining blood and grinding), add 1 Tbsp fine salt, 0.5 Tbsp sugar, 2 Tbsp potato starch, 1 Tbsp minced garlic, and 50ml of water. Combine all ingredients.
Step 4
Now, thoroughly mix and knead the ingredients until the mixture becomes sticky and cohesive. Using a spatula or your hands, knead until the mixture has a good ‘chewy’ texture. This is important for the final texture.
Step 5
Carefully pack the mixture into a prepared glass container (like a Spam mold or a small loaf pan). Press down firmly, ensuring there are no air pockets. Smooth the surface with plastic wrap or your hands for an even finish.

Steam the Spam for about 50 minutes. Bring water to a boil in a steamer, place the container inside, cover, and steam. You can also cover the container with aluminum foil to prevent moisture loss and keep the Spam moist.

After 50 minutes, your delicious homemade Spam is ready! Remove it from the steamer and let it cool slightly before proceeding.

Once slightly cooled, slice the Spam into your desired thickness. Slicing them into bite-sized pieces will be especially appealing for children.

Heat a lightly oiled pan over medium heat. Place the sliced Spam and pan-fry until golden brown on both sides. Frying until nicely browned enhances its savory flavor.
