Ingredients
- 6 slices of sandwich bread (recommended: tangzhong or regular white bread)
- 2 large eggs (use fresh eggs)
- 2 tablespoons strawberry jam (adjust to your preference)
- 4 slices of processed ham (roast ham recommended)
- 4 slices of processed cheese (cheddar or mozzarella)
- 1 pinch of salt (to season the egg mixture)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, carefully trim off the crusts from each slice of bread using a knife. This step will make the sandwich more tender and easier to eat.
Step 2
Spread a thin, even layer of strawberry jam onto one side of each bread slice. The sweetness from the jam will enhance the sandwich’s overall flavor profile.
Step 3
Place one slice of ham on top of the jam-spread side of the bread. The ham contributes a savory element to the sandwich.
Step 4
Next, add one slice of cheese on top of the ham. Yellow processed cheese adds a wonderful richness as it melts.
Step 5
Now, create the sandwich layers. For the middle layers, spread jam on another slice of bread, then layer with ham, cheese, and finally another slice of bread spread with jam. Press down firmly on the assembled sandwich to compact the layers and ensure it holds together.
Step 6
In a bowl, crack the 2 eggs and add a pinch of salt. Whisk them gently until just combined. Avoid over-beating the eggs.
Step 7
Dip the assembled sandwiches into the egg mixture, ensuring both sides and the edges are thoroughly coated. Let them soak for a moment to allow the egg mixture to seep into the bread.
Step 8
Heat a lightly oiled pan over medium-low heat. Place the egg-coated sandwiches in the pan. Cook slowly, flipping occasionally, until golden brown on both sides. Using low heat prevents the outside from burning before the inside is cooked through.
Step 9
Hold the sandwich upright and carefully toast the edges as well, turning as needed, until they are also golden brown. This ensures all sides are perfectly cooked and delicious.
Step 10
Cut the sandwich into desired portions, such as in half or quarters, and arrange them attractively on a plate. It’s best enjoyed immediately while warm.
Step 11
(Optional) For a final touch reminiscent of a cafe treat, dust with powdered sugar using a sieve. Serving with fresh berries like strawberries or blueberries makes for a complete and beautiful home brunch.
