Moo Namul Bokkeum: A Delicious Stir-Fried Radish Recipe
Mastering Moo Namul Bokkeum: Using Radish Parts for Optimal Flavor
Understanding how to use different parts of the radish is key to enhancing your cooking! The sweeter top parts are ideal for fresh salads and raw preparations, the middle sections are best for soups and braised dishes, and the spicier bottom parts are perfect for namul (seasoned vegetables) and pickling. This recipe will guide you through creating a tender and flavorful Moo Namul Bokkeum, highlighting the radish’s natural sweetness and soft texture. It’s a fantastic side dish for any meal, or even a healthy snack for kids. Let’s get cooking!
Main Ingredients- 1 piece of Korean radish (about 300g)
- 2 Tbsp perilla oil
Seasoning Ingredients- 1/2 Tbsp minced garlic
- A little green onion (finely chopped)
- 1/3 Tbsp salt (adjust to taste)
- A pinch of sesame seeds (for garnish)
- 1/4 cup anchovy broth (or kelp broth, water can be substituted)
- 1/2 Tbsp minced garlic
- A little green onion (finely chopped)
- 1/3 Tbsp salt (adjust to taste)
- A pinch of sesame seeds (for garnish)
- 1/4 cup anchovy broth (or kelp broth, water can be substituted)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, peel the radish and cut it into strips approximately 0.5cm thick. Try to keep them slightly chunky, as very thin strips can become mushy when stir-fried. Finely chop the green onion as well.
Step 2
Heat 2 tablespoons of fragrant perilla oil in a pan over medium-low heat. Add the julienned radish and minced garlic. Stir-fry for about 2-3 minutes, until the radish becomes slightly translucent and about halfway cooked. Gently stir-fry to infuse the radish with the aroma of the perilla oil.
Step 3
Once the radish is partially cooked, pour in 1/4 cup of anchovy broth (or kelp broth) and mix well. Cover the pan with a lid and let it simmer over low heat until the liquid has reduced slightly. This will help the radish absorb moisture and flavor.
Step 4
Remove the lid and add 1/3 tablespoon of salt to season the radish. Stir well. If it’s not salty enough, add a little more salt. Stir-fry briefly once more to ensure the salt is evenly distributed.
Step 5
Finally, add the chopped green onions and stir-fry for about 1 minute, just until they are slightly wilted. This completes your delicious Moo Namul Bokkeum! Garnish with a sprinkle of sesame seeds for a nutty flavor and appealing look. Enjoy this wonderful side dish with a bowl of warm rice!
