Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, bring fresh water to a rolling boil at 100°C. The essence of Shouyu Coffee lies in the harmony of hot water and rich ingredients. Place your preferred instant coffee in a cup. Products containing creamer are particularly good, and after trying several, the coconut-flavored one yielded the most impressive taste. (Black coffee is not suitable for this recipe.)

Step 2

Next, add salt to deepen and uniquely enrich the coffee’s flavor. Befitting the name ‘Shouyu Coffee,’ adding 1-2 chunks of Tibetan salt can introduce a distinctive aroma. Coarse salt can also be used. Stir well until the added salt is completely dissolved.

Step 3

Finally, it’s time to add the butter, which will complete the identity of your Shouyu Coffee. This recipe is inspired by the traditional ‘Suutei Tsai’ (milk tea) that Mongolian nomads drink, mixing yak butter, tea, and salt. Use animal-derived butter instead of yak butter to enhance the flavor. Stir thoroughly until the butter melts completely into the coffee, creating a unified blend. You might be surprised by the unique taste initially, but you’ll soon be captivated by its charm!
