Main Ingredients

  • 150g canned tuna
  • 1/4 onion
  • 1/3 carrot
  • 1/3 zucchini
  • 80g oyster mushrooms
  • 2 bowls of cooked rice (approx. 300g)
  • 1200ml water (6 cups)
  • 1 broth pack (kelp and anchovy)

Seasoning (Tablespoon Measurement)

  • 2 Tbsp sesame oil
  • 1 Tbsp tuna extract (fish sauce)
  • 0.5 Tbsp soy sauce for soup
  • 0.5 tsp salt
  • A pinch of black pepper

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

Finely dice the vegetables that will add texture to the porridge (onion, carrot, zucchini, oyster mushrooms). Wash them thoroughly, pat them dry, and dice them into approximately 0.5cm pieces. Finely diced vegetables will cook down nicely with the rice, creating a smooth texture.

Step 1

Step 2

Drain the oil from the canned tuna using a sieve. Then, pour boiling water over the tuna. This step helps to remove excess oil and any gamey odors, significantly reducing the fishy taste. Let the tuna drain briefly.

Step 2

Step 3

Heat a pot over medium heat and add 2 tablespoons of sesame oil. Add all the prepared vegetables, the drained tuna, and a pinch of salt. Sauté for about 3 minutes over medium heat until the ingredients are well combined. Pre-sautéing the ingredients enhances their flavor.

Step 3

Step 4

Add 2 bowls of cooked rice, 1200ml (6 cups) of water, and 1 broth pack to the sautéed ingredients. Bring to a boil over high heat. Once boiling, reduce the heat to medium. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking to the bottom of the pot, and simmer for about 10 minutes. After 10 minutes, remove and discard the broth pack.

Step 4

Step 5

Now it’s time to season the porridge. Add 1 tablespoon of tuna extract and 0.5 tablespoon of soy sauce for soup, and stir well. You can adjust the salt and soy sauce to your preference. After seasoning, reduce the heat to low and simmer for another 5 minutes. Finally, sprinkle with a pinch of black pepper, and your delicious tuna porridge is ready!

Step 5

Step 6

This tuna porridge can be prepared in about 20 minutes, from chopping vegetables to completion, as long as you have cooked rice ready. It’s a perfect breakfast option for busy mornings.
