Nostalgic Broth Tteokbokki with Fish Cakes

I decided to make the classic cart-style broth tteokbokki and fish cake soup at home using the flat pan I bought for stir-fried noodles! With the special soup mixes available, anyone can easily make delicious broth tteokbokki and fish cake soup in just 20 minutes without fail. Enjoy this comforting and nostalgic meal.

Ingredients

  • Broth Tteokbokki Soup Mix 60g
  • Fish Cake Soup Mix 24g
  • Cylindrical Rice Cakes (tteokbokki tteok) 400g
  • 1 Green Onion
  • 1 pack Busan Fish Cakes
  • 1 Cheongyang Pepper (optional, for extra spice)
  • 4-5 Frozen Fried Dumplings
  • 3 Hard-Boiled Eggs
  • 680ml Water (for Tteokbokki)
  • 1000ml Water (for Fish Cake Soup)

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, pour 1000ml of water into a pot for the fish cake soup and 680ml of water into the flat pan for the tteokbokki. Then, add the cylindrical rice cakes (tteokbokki tteok), which have been lightly rinsed under running water, into the flat pan for the tteokbokki.

Once the rice cakes are in the tteokbokki pan, immediately add the 60g of Broth Tteokbokki Soup Mix and bring to a boil over medium heat. In the fish cake soup pot, add the 24g of Fish Cake Soup Mix and stir well to dissolve.

For the Tteokbokki pan: After simmering for about 5 minutes until the rice cakes start to soften, add the sliced fish cakes and continue to cook. Once the fish cakes are cooked, add the chopped green parts of the green onion.
For the Fish Cake Soup pot: Around the time you add fish cakes to the tteokbokki, add the white parts of the green onion and the Cheongyang pepper (if using), all chopped, to the fish cake soup pot. Let both pots simmer for another 5 minutes.

For the Tteokbokki pan: Finally, add the fried dumplings and hard-boiled eggs, and simmer for another 5 minutes to complete the delicious broth tteokbokki.
For the Fish Cake Soup pot: Check if the fish cakes are fully cooked, then turn off the heat. Your savory fish cake soup is ready!
