- 2-3 hard-boiled eggs
- 5-7 Vienna sausages (scored)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Prepare the chewy tteokbokki rice cakes. If using frozen rice cakes, soak them briefly in water or rinse them 2-3 times. This helps maintain their chewy texture without them becoming mushy.

Step 2
Add 1 tablespoon of Sun-Chae Gochujang (sun-dried chili paste) to a bowl. The quality of your gochujang significantly impacts the taste, so using a good one is recommended.

Step 3
Next, add 1 tablespoon of sugar. You can adjust the sweetness to your preference.

Step 4
Pour in 1 paper cup (about 200ml) of water. You can adjust the amount of water based on the quantity of rice cakes or your desired sauce consistency.

Step 5
Combine the sauce ingredients in a pot and stir well over high heat until the paste dissolves. Once the sauce comes to a boil, reduce the heat to medium and add the rice cakes, stirring to coat them evenly with the sauce.

Step 6
Add your favorite toppings like fish cakes, Vienna sausages, or hard-boiled eggs as desired. Adding toppings will make your tteokbokki more fulfilling and delicious.

Step 7
Finally, add the chopped green onions. Simmer until the sauce thickens slightly. In the last step, drizzle about two swirls of oligodang and mix well. This adds a glossy finish and a subtle sweetness, completing your nostalgic market-style tteokbokki! Garnish with a sprinkle of toasted sesame seeds and enjoy.
