Salad Filling Ingredients

  • 5 hard-boiled eggs
  • 1/5 head of cabbage (shredded)
  • 1/2 carrot (shredded)
  • 4 imitation crab sticks (shredded or cut)
  • 1 sausage (boiled or pan-fried)
  • 2 slices of bread (toasted as desired)

Salad Dressing Seasonings

  • 5 Tbsp sugar
  • 1/2 Tbsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 14 Tbsp mayonnaise

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, let’s prepare the hard-boiled eggs. Place 5 eggs in a pot. Add a pinch of salt to the water to prevent cracking and a splash of vinegar, which helps the shells peel more easily. Bring to a boil over high heat, then reduce to medium and simmer for about 20 minutes. Once cooked, transfer the eggs to an ice bath to cool completely before peeling.

Step 1

Step 2

Thoroughly wash the cabbage and pat it dry. Shred it thinly. Peel the carrot and also shred it thinly. It’s best to use about twice as much cabbage as carrot for a good texture.

Step 2

Step 3

Shred the 4 imitation crab sticks into bite-sized pieces, or gently tear them apart with your fingers. This will help them absorb the dressing better and enhance the flavor.

Step 3

Step 4

Add the peeled hard-boiled eggs to a large bowl containing the shredded cabbage, carrot, and imitation crab sticks. You can mash the eggs with a fork or chop them into small pieces, according to your preference.

Step 4

Step 5

Add 5 tablespoons of sugar to the mixture for a touch of sweetness. You can adjust the amount of sugar to your taste.

Step 5

Step 6

Stir in 1/2 tablespoon of salt to season the salad. It’s advisable to start with a little less salt, as it’s easier to add more later than to correct over-salting.

Step 6

Step 7

Generously add 14 tablespoons of mayonnaise. This will create a rich, creamy, and moist salad filling.

Step 7

Step 8

Boil the sausage briefly in hot water until heated through. Alternatively, you can pan-fry it. Once cooked, let it cool slightly. Make 2 or 3 cuts along the length of the sausage and gently spread it open.

Step 8

Step 9

Finally, add 1/2 teaspoon of black pepper for an aromatic finish. Be mindful not to add too much, as it can overpower the other flavors.

Step 9

Step 10

Put on a pair of disposable gloves and gently mix all the ingredients together, being careful not to mash the vegetables. A gentle hand ensures a pleasant texture.

Step 10

Step 11

Toast the slices of bread until golden brown in a pan or toaster. Prepare the boiled sausage by gently fanning out the cut sections.

Step 11

Step 12

Generously spoon the prepared salad filling onto each slice of toasted bread.

Step 12

Step 13

Arrange the prepared sausage slices on top of the salad filling.

Step 13

Step 14

Drizzle with ketchup and mustard to your liking. Finally, place another slice of toasted bread on top to complete your delicious homemade salad bread sandwich!
