Nostalgic Street Toast: A Special Breakfast with Kids
Kid-Favorite Street Toast for Children’s Day Morning Breakfast
On this special holiday morning, let’s whip up a quick and easy street toast that your child will love! If you have pre-shredded cabbage on hand, this street toast is a breeze to make. Its delightful sweet and savory combination is perfect for a fun and delicious breakfast.
Main Ingredients- 2 slices of bread
- 1 handful of fresh cabbage (approx. 1 cup, thinly shredded)
- 1 egg
- 2 Tbsp cooking oil or butter
- 1 tsp sugar
- Ketchup, generous amount (to taste)
- 1 slice of processed ham
- 1 slice of processed cheese
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, let’s prepare the bread. You can toast it in a pan, but today we’ll use an air fryer for a lighter, crispier texture. Place the two slices of bread in the air fryer basket and cook at 160°C (320°F) for about 3-5 minutes. (Cooking times may vary depending on your air fryer model, so keep an eye on it to prevent burning.)
Step 2
Prepare the star ingredient: cabbage. Have about a handful of thinly shredded cabbage ready. The thinner the shreds, the better they’ll mix with the egg and the softer the texture will be.
Step 3
In a bowl or a large mug, combine the shredded cabbage and crack in one egg. Use a spoon to move up and down, chopping the cabbage into smaller pieces while mixing it with the egg. This process softens the cabbage and helps it integrate beautifully with the egg mixture.
Step 4
Heat 2 Tbsp of cooking oil or butter in a frying pan over medium heat. Once the pan is hot, pour in the cabbage and egg mixture. Cook until golden brown on both sides, gently stirring and shaping it into a round patty with a spatula or chopsticks.
Step 5
Place one slice of the toasted bread on a plate or in the pan. Top it with the cooked cabbage and egg patty. Now for the sweet touch! Sprinkle 1 tsp of sugar evenly over the patty. The sweetness of the sugar will beautifully complement the tanginess of the ketchup.
Step 6
Add a generous amount of ketchup over the ingredients. Squirt as much as your child likes or to your preference.
Step 7
Next, add a slice of processed ham for a savory flavor. If you like, you can lightly pan-fry the ham before adding it for extra deliciousness.
Step 8
Place a slice of processed cheese on top of the ham. The cheese will melt slightly, adding a creamy richness to the toast.
Step 9
Finally, cover everything with the other slice of toasted bread. Your nostalgic street toast is ready! Enjoy this special breakfast made with your child.
