Nostalgic Treat! Bread Slice Sausage Hot Dog Recipe
Hearty and Delicious Bread Slice Sausage Hot Dog
Perfect for picnic lunches or as a snack! Introducing a sausage hot dog recipe that uses soft bread slices instead of traditional hot dog buns. Quick to make and bursting with flavor, it’s sure to be loved by both kids and adults.
Main Ingredients
- 4 slices of bread
- 4 sausages
- 2-3 cabbage leaves
- Mozzarella cheese (generous amount as preferred)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, we’ll make the vegetable stir-fry that adds flavor to your hot dog. Finely mince the onion, green bell pepper, and red bell pepper and set them aside. Minced vegetables create a pleasant texture and blend well within the hot dog filling.
Step 2
Heat a pan over medium-low heat without adding oil. Add all the minced vegetables (onion, green bell pepper, red bell pepper) and stir-fry. Once the vegetables start releasing moisture, add a pinch of salt and cook until the onions become translucent and tender. When the vegetables are fully cooked, turn off the heat and transfer them to a bowl to cool slightly.
Step 3
To the cooled vegetable stir-fry, add 2 tablespoons of mayonnaise and a pinch of black pepper. Mix everything thoroughly. This creates a delicious filling with a balance of crispness, tenderness, and creamy mayonnaise flavor. You can add a tiny bit of sugar if you like.
Step 4
Now it’s time to assemble the hot dogs. Take the four slices of bread. Spread a thin layer of mustard sauce on one side of each slice. Place one sausage lengthwise in the center of the bread. Fold the bread in half to form a ‘U’ shape, creating space inside for the filling. This makes it easier to add the other ingredients.
Step 5
Carefully spoon the prepared vegetable stir-fry into the ‘U’ shaped bread. Layer the thinly sliced cabbage leaves on top of the vegetables. Finally, generously sprinkle your desired amount of mozzarella cheese over everything. Lots of cheese makes it even more delicious!
Step 6
Drizzle ketchup artistically over the cheese. Then, bake in a preheated oven at 180°C (350°F) for 10 to 15 minutes, until golden brown. They are ready when the bread edges are crisp and the mozzarella cheese is melted and gooey. If you don’t have an oven, you can achieve a similar result by cooking them in a frying pan over low heat with a lid on until golden. Enjoy them hot for the best taste!
