Nourishing Rice, Millet, Mung Bean, and Chestnut Porridge for Baby
Early to Mid-Stage Baby Food: Super Simple, Yet Packed with Mommy’s Love and Nutrients – Rice, Millet, Mung Bean, and Chestnut Porridge ♡
Even though I’m a new mom, I’m studying hard to make the best baby food for my beloved daughter, Dain! My current passion is creating nutrient-rich baby meals. I’m always striving to make baby food that is not only delicious but also healthier and more nutritious. ^^
Ingredients
- 1 handful rice (approx. 1/4 cup)
- 1 pinch millet (very small amount)
- 25 mung beans (approx. 1.5 Tbsp)
- 2 small chestnuts
- 2 dried jujubes
- 1 dried balloon flower root
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, soak the rice in water the day before. Soak the mung beans and millet for at least half a day. Prepare the dried jujubes (2) for a subtle sweetness in the broth, dried balloon flower root (1) for respiratory health, and 2 small chestnuts with their shells removed. Chestnuts are excellent for enhancing a baby’s palate with their natural sweetness; my baby absolutely loved the porridge when I included them. ^^
Step 2
In a blender, combine the soaked rice, millet, mung beans, and peeled chestnuts. Add a small amount of water, just enough to help blend the ingredients smoothly until a fine puree is formed. Adjust water quantity based on your blender’s performance.
Step 3
In a pot, pour about 10 cups (approx. 2 liters) of water. Add the dried jujubes and dried balloon flower root to create a flavorful base for the porridge. Jujubes will lend a natural sweetness, and they pair wonderfully with mung beans. Balloon flower root is a fantastic ingredient that supports your baby’s delicate respiratory system.
Step 4
Once the water has absorbed some flavor from the jujubes and balloon flower root, remove them from the pot. Now, add the blended mixture of rice, millet, mung beans, and chestnuts to the pot. Stir continuously with a wooden spoon to prevent sticking to the bottom, and cook until the porridge reaches your desired consistency. This process yields a quick, easy, yet incredibly tasty and nutritious baby food! For convenient storage, portion out the remaining porridge into small microwave-safe containers for freezing, saving one serving for immediate consumption.
Step 5
I offered the porridge to my little Dain for a taste test. Her reaction was overwhelmingly positive! She enthusiastically reached for the spoon, saying, ‘I want to eat it, Mommy!’ and ate quite a generous amount. Seeing her enjoy it so much made me feel so proud. ^^
Step 6
Oh, my sweet daughter, spoons aren’t for eating! ㅠㅜ ㅋㅋ Thank you for eating so well today. The process of contemplating ingredients and cooking for my baby brings me immense joy. ^-^
