Cooking Instructions

Step 1

Start by preparing one pack of fresh enoki mushrooms. Gently rinse them under cool running water to remove any dirt or debris. After rinsing, drain them thoroughly in a colander. This step helps to reduce any earthy smell and ensures your baby food is clean and safe.

Step 1

Step 2

Trim off the tough base of the enoki mushrooms. The bottom part can be fibrous and might impart a slightly bitter taste, so it’s best to remove it before processing for your baby’s food.

Step 2

Step 3

Finely chop the enoki mushrooms into small, manageable pieces that are easy for your baby to eat and swallow. Aim for a consistency that your baby can handle with their developing chewing skills. The delicate strands of enoki can also be visually engaging for babies!

Step 3

Step 4

Bring a pot of water to a boil. Once boiling, place the chopped enoki mushrooms into a microwave-safe or heatproof container. If you don’t have a steamer, using a heatproof container placed over boiling water works as a simple steaming method.

Step 4

Step 5

Place the container with the mushrooms over the boiling water, cover it, and steam for about 5 minutes, or until the mushrooms are tender. Be careful not to overcook them, as they can become too mushy. They should be soft enough for your baby to easily mash.

Step 5

Step 6

Once steamed and slightly cooled, portion the enoki mushrooms into baby food cubes, about 15g each. Freeze these cubes for later use. Freezing allows you to have nutritious baby food readily available, saving you time on busy days.

Step 6

Step 7

To serve, transfer a frozen enoki mushroom cube to the refrigerator the night before to thaw slowly. Alternatively, for immediate use, gently reheat the cube in the microwave on a defrost setting or use a double boiler (bain-marie) until warm. Ensure the puree is at a safe temperature (around 37°C or 98.6°F) before feeding your baby. Avoid overheating, as it can degrade nutrients.
