Thanks to my second child who absolutely adores bell peppers, I often find myself making bell pepper dishes! I’ve created a tasty rolled omelet packed with nutritious and delicious bell peppers, perfect for children. This recipe features a fantastic combination of tuna and bell peppers, making it easy to prepare. While rolled omelets are always delicious no matter the filling, I’ve chosen three ingredients that kids particularly enjoy to make this one extra special. Try it now!
Ingredients- 1/2 yellow bell pepper
- 1/2 red bell pepper
- 1 can (approx. 100g) tuna
- 1 Tbsp cooking sake (mirin)
- Pinch of salt
- Pinch of black pepper
- Cooking oil, as needed
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Drain the oil thoroughly from the canned tuna. To maximize oil removal, wrap the tuna in paper towels and press firmly. This ensures a more delicate and less greasy filling.
Step 2
Wash the yellow and red bell peppers, remove the stems and seeds, then finely dice them. Dicing them small will result in a smoother omelet and prevent the filling from falling apart.
Step 3
In a bowl, combine the drained tuna with the diced bell peppers. Add 1 tablespoon of cooking sake, a pinch of salt, and a pinch of black pepper to season. Mix everything well to create the filling.
Step 4
Crack the eggs into a separate bowl, season lightly with salt, and whisk them thoroughly with a whisk until smooth. Lightly grease a heated non-stick skillet with cooking oil. Pour one ladleful of the whisked egg mixture and spread it thinly to form a crepe-like layer.
Step 5
As the egg starts to cook and the edges begin to set, carefully place the prepared paprika and tuna filling along one side of the cooked egg layer.
Step 6
Gently roll the egg over the filling, tucking it in as you go. Cook over medium-low heat, slowly rolling the omelet to ensure the egg cooks through without burning. Continue rolling and cooking until a firm, rolled omelet is formed, similar to making a sushi roll.
Step 7
Once the paprika and tuna rolled omelet is beautifully cooked, let it cool slightly. Slice it into bite-sized pieces and serve. This nutritious dish is delicious served warm or cold, making it an excellent side dish for children!
