How to Make Delicious Stir-Fried Radish with Perilla Seeds
Autumn radishes are renowned for their health benefits, comparable to ginseng! They are easily digestible and a wonderful seasonal ingredient to incorporate into your diet. This recipe transforms thinly sliced radish into a flavorful stir-fry seasoned with nutty perilla oil and a generous amount of ground perilla seeds. It’s a simple yet incredibly nourishing side dish perfect for any meal. Adding whole perilla seeds provides a delightful textural contrast. Let’s get cooking!
Ingredients- 1 medium Korean radish (Mu)
- 3 Tbsp perilla oil (deulgireum)
- 3 Tbsp ground perilla seeds (deulkkaegaru)
- 1 Tbsp whole perilla seeds (optional, for texture)
- 1/2 Tbsp minced garlic
- 1/2 Tbsp salt (or to taste)
- A small amount of green onion, finely chopped
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
The Korean radish is at its peak season now, offering a refreshing taste and a pleasant sweetness. It’s considered highly beneficial for health, often compared to ginseng, especially during autumn.
Step 2
Begin by thoroughly washing the radish to remove any dirt. Next, thinly slice the radish into long, julienne strips. Slicing them thinly ensures they cook evenly and absorb the flavors well, resulting in a tender texture.
Step 3
Heat a non-stick pan over medium heat and add the julienned radish along with 3 tablespoons of nutty perilla oil. Stir-fry the radish until it becomes slightly translucent and begins to soften, indicating it’s about halfway cooked. Add 1/2 tablespoon of salt and 1/2 tablespoon of minced garlic, and continue to stir-fry until well combined. You can adjust the saltiness to your preference.
Step 4
Once the radish is tender, add a generous 3 tablespoons of ground perilla seeds. Stir well to evenly distribute the ground seeds throughout the radish. If you have 1 tablespoon of whole perilla seeds, add them at this stage for an extra layer of nutty flavor and a satisfying crunch with every bite.
Step 5
When all ingredients are cooked and thoroughly mixed, turn off the heat. Stir in a small amount of finely chopped green onion. The residual heat will lightly wilt the green onion, releasing its fresh aroma and completing this delicious stir-fried radish dish. It’s a wonderful side dish that pairs perfectly with a bowl of steamed rice!
