Main Ingredients

  • Beef for grilling 200g (sirloin, tenderloin, or your preferred cut)
  • 1/2 Onion (sliced)
  • 1 King Oyster Mushroom (sliced into bite-sized pieces)
  • 1/4 Zucchini (sliced)
  • 1/4 Yellow Bell Pepper (seeds removed, sliced)
  • 1/4 Red Bell Pepper (seeds removed, sliced)
  • Garlic flakes (for garnish, optional)

Seasoning

  • 1 Tbsp Mirin or Cooking Wine (removes beef odor and adds flavor)
  • 4 Tbsp Soy Sauce (for umami)
  • 1.5 Tbsp Sugar (adjust sweetness)
  • 1/2 Tbsp Gochugaru (Korean chili powder, for a hint of spice; can be omitted for children)
  • A pinch of Black Pepper (enhances flavor)
  • A sprinkle of Sesame Seeds (for nuttiness and garnish)
  • 1 Tbsp Sesame Oil (for finishing aroma)

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

Wash all vegetables thoroughly and pat them dry. Slice them into strips similar in length to the beef. Remove the seeds from the bell peppers to avoid bitterness. Slice the king oyster mushrooms along the grain for a better texture.

Step 1

Step 2

In a wide pan, combine the beef for grilling with 1 Tbsp of mirin (or cooking wine) and gently massage it in. Let it marinate for about 5 minutes to effectively remove any gamey odor and enhance flavor. Add the zucchini and stir-fry over high heat. Stir-frying quickly over high heat helps maintain the crispness of the vegetables.

Step 2

Step 3

Once the beef is partially cooked on the outside, cut it into bite-sized pieces. Avoid cutting it too small, as it might break apart during stir-frying. Slightly larger pieces are often preferable.

Step 3

Step 4

When the beef is mostly cooked, add the prepared onion, king oyster mushrooms, and zucchini. Add 3 Tbsp soy sauce, 1/2 Tbsp gochugaru, and 1.5 Tbsp sugar. Stir-fry rapidly over high heat, mixing well. Stir-fry quickly before the vegetables become limp to retain their crispness.

Step 4

Step 5

Finally, add the yellow and red bell peppers for a vibrant color. Stir-fry them over high heat just briefly, as overcooking can make them mushy. Add another 1 Tbsp of soy sauce to adjust the seasoning. Drizzle in 1 Tbsp of sesame oil just before turning off the heat to bring out a rich, nutty aroma.

Step 5

Step 6

Transfer the well-stir-fried beef and vegetable mixture to a nice serving plate. Finally, sprinkle with freshly ground black pepper and a generous amount of sesame seeds. Top with crispy garlic flakes for an even more appealing presentation! Enjoy this delicious dish with a bowl of warm rice.
