Bite-Sized Beef Rice Balls: Easy and Delicious!
Here are beef rice balls that are perfectly sized for little hands! They are packed with both flavor and nutrition, making them a delightful and wholesome treat for children.
Main Ingredients- Small amount of minced or finely chopped beef (about 1/3 cup paper cup)
- 1 Egg
- Flakes of seaweed (seasoned or plain) – a pinch
- 1 bowl of warm cooked rice (approx. 200g)
Seasoning & Extras- 1/2 tsp Sesame oil
- Pinch of salt (omit or use very sparingly for baby food)
- 1/2 tsp Sesame oil
- Pinch of salt (omit or use very sparingly for baby food)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, prepare the beef. If using minced or very finely chopped beef, mix it with 1/2 tsp of sesame oil. This step helps to remove any gamey smell and tenderizes the beef. Lightly grease a frying pan, add the seasoned beef, and stir-fry over medium-low heat until fully cooked.
Next, prepare the egg. Crack 1 egg into a bowl, add a tiny pinch of salt (or omit it), and whisk well. Lightly grease the pan again, pour in the whisked egg, and scramble it into small pieces. Aim for pieces that will mix well with the rice, not too large. Finally, prepare the seaweed flakes. If using seasoned seaweed snacks, crumble them. If using plain seaweed, lightly toast it in a pan or microwave until crisp, then crumble.
Step 2
Place 1 bowl of warm cooked rice into a large mixing bowl. Using freshly cooked warm rice is best as it helps the ingredients bind together and enhances the flavor. Add the cooked beef, scrambled egg, and seaweed flakes to the rice. Using a spatula or spoon, gently mix everything together, being careful not to mash the rice grains. Ensure all ingredients are evenly distributed. Taste the mixture and if it needs a little more flavor, add a tiny pinch of salt. For children, it’s recommended to keep the seasoning very mild or omit it altogether.
Step 3
Once the rice and ingredients are well combined, it’s time to shape the rice balls! Take small portions of the rice mixture into your hands and gently roll them into bite-sized spheres. The key is to make them small enough for children to easily pop into their mouths. You can adjust the size based on your child’s hand size or preference. Once you’ve shaped all the rice into neat little balls, arrange them on a plate for a delicious snack or meal!
