Porridge Ingredients

  • 1 bowl of cooked rice (approx. 200g)
  • 2 cups water (approx. 400ml)

Seasoning & Finishing

  • 3 Tbsp perilla seed powder (approx. 30g)
  • 1/4 tsp salt (adjust to taste)
  • A little water (for thinning)

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

In a pot, combine 1 bowl of cooked rice with approximately 2 cups (400ml) of water, which is about twice the volume of the rice. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat, then reduce to medium-low heat. Stir frequently with a spatula or ladle to prevent the rice from clumping and to help it break down. Cook for about 10-15 minutes, stirring regularly, until the rice grains are soft and the mixture begins to thicken.

Once the rice has softened and the porridge has reached a thick consistency, stir in 3 tablespoons of perilla seed powder until well combined and smooth. Continue to cook over medium-low heat, stirring constantly, for another 5 minutes. This step allows the nutty flavor of the perilla seeds to fully infuse into the porridge. If the porridge becomes too thick, add a little more water to achieve your desired consistency.

Finally, add 1/4 teaspoon of salt to season. Stir once more to ensure everything is evenly distributed, then turn off the heat. Your delicious perilla seed porridge is ready!
