Nutty Potato Salad: A Wholesome Snack for Kids!
Delicious Nutty Potato Salad Recipe
Made this for the kids’ snack! A delightful potato salad packed with the goodness of nuts and a creamy texture, perfect for little ones and enjoyable for everyone.
Ingredients- 5 medium potatoes
- 1 egg
- 50g mixed nuts (choose your favorites)
- 5g finely chopped dill pickles
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Start by peeling the potatoes and washing them thoroughly. Cut them into large chunks. In a pot, combine the cut potatoes and the whole egg. Add enough water to cover them completely and bring to a boil. Cook for about 20-25 minutes, or until the potatoes are tender when pierced with a fork.
Step 2
While the potatoes and egg are boiling, finely chop the mixed nuts. You can use a knife on a cutting board. Aim for a texture that still has a slight bite rather than a fine powder for a pleasant crunch in the salad.
Step 3
It’s best to mash the potatoes while they are still hot. Drain the water from the pot and transfer the hot potatoes to a bowl. Use a potato masher or a fork to mash them until smooth and lump-free. Mashing while hot makes for a creamier consistency.
Step 4
Once the egg is boiled, cool it in cold water before peeling. Separate the egg white from the yolk. Finely chop the egg white and set it aside to be mixed into the mashed potatoes. Keep the yolk separate for garnishing later.
Step 5
Gently squeeze out any excess moisture from the chopped dill pickles using a paper towel. Finely chop the pickles. These will add a delightful tangy crunch to the potato salad.
Step 6
Add the chopped nuts, chopped egg white, and the well-drained chopped pickles to the bowl of mashed potatoes. Use a spatula or spoon to gently mix everything together until well combined. Ensure all ingredients are evenly distributed throughout the salad.
Step 7
Your delicious nutty potato salad is now ready! The combination of crunchy nuts and creamy potatoes is truly wonderful.
Step 8
To serve it attractively, we’ll use a clean, empty pickle jar. Press the potato salad firmly into the jar to shape it. This technique helps create a neat, rounded mound of salad.
Step 9
Carefully invert the jar onto a serving plate to release the shaped potato salad. For a beautiful finishing touch, grate the reserved egg yolk through a fine sieve over the top of the salad. This golden topping will make the salad look extra appealing and appetizing – the kids will love it!
Step 10
Enjoy your nutritious and nutty potato salad! It’s a fantastic option for a brunch menu or a delightful snack for children.
