Ingredients- 1 bowl of cooked rice
- 250g fresh sea squirts (ascidians), cleaned
- 50g chives
- 5 perilla leaves
- 6 lettuce leaves
- Crumbled roasted seaweed (gim)
- Toasted sesame seeds
- Sesame oil
- Gochujang-based sauce (cho-gochujang) to taste
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Prepare the sea squirts. After cleaning and removing the tough outer parts, rinse the sea squirt flesh gently 1-2 times in lightly salted water (about 1/2 teaspoon of salt in 1 cup of water). This helps to temper their natural brininess and remove any residual grit. Drain them thoroughly in a colander. Pat them dry if necessary.
Step 2
Chop the vegetables and sea squirts. Wash the chives and cut them into 3-4 cm lengths. Wash the perilla and lettuce leaves, dry them well, and then thinly shred them. Finely chop the prepared sea squirts into bite-sized pieces; this ensures they integrate beautifully with the rice and other ingredients.
Step 3
Assemble your bibimbap! Place the warm cooked rice into a serving bowl. Artfully arrange the prepared vegetables (chives, perilla, lettuce) over the rice. Spoon the chopped sea squirts in the center, and generously sprinkle with crumbled seaweed. Drizzle with your desired amount of cho-gochujang, toasted sesame seeds, and a fragrant swirl of sesame oil. Mix everything together and enjoy the vibrant taste of the sea!
