Onion Tuna Mayo
Super Simple Side Dish with Canned Tuna: Onion & Tuna Mayo Recipe
Today, I’m sharing a quick side dish recipe using leftover canned tuna! It’s a delicious Tuna Mayo made with just onions and tuna. It’s incredibly simple, yet so tasty, you should definitely give it a try! I once made this for my friends and my husband’s friends when they visited, and they loved it so much they asked for more! It’s a side dish that’s perfect for both kids and adults alike!
Ingredients- 2 cans (135g each) of tuna
- 3/4 medium onion
- 130g mayonnaise
- Pepper to taste (optional)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Finely chop 3/4 of an onion. You can chop it with a knife, but if you’re feeling lazy like me, using a hand mixer’s chopping attachment is a great shortcut!
Step 2
I recommend chopping the onion slightly larger rather than making it too fine. This gives a pleasant crunch and texture to the finished tuna mayo.
Step 3
Next, add two cans of tuna (135g each). Make sure to drain the oil from the tuna thoroughly before adding it. This helps to reduce greasiness and enhance the tuna’s natural flavor.
Step 4
Add about 130g of mayonnaise. This creamy binder brings everything together beautifully. You can adjust the amount of mayonnaise based on your preference for a richer or lighter flavor.
Step 5
Season with pepper to your liking. I highly recommend using freshly ground black pepper from a grinder if you have one – it adds a wonderful aromatic kick that’s far superior to pre-ground pepper. In fact, the more pepper you add, the more delicious it becomes!
Step 6
Finally, mix everything together well with a spatula or spoon until combined. That’s it! Isn’t it incredibly simple? It probably took less than 5 minutes to make. This super easy yet delicious side dish is perfect served over rice, as a sandwich filling, or even as a topping for salads.
