Experience the Briny Goodness: Ramen with Fresh Oysters
Do you love seafood during winter? If so, you must try this Oyster Ramen recipe! Many might find the combination of ramen and oysters unusual, but this dish offers a surprisingly delightful and refreshing broth. It’s perfect for a quick, warming meal that captures the essence of winter flavors. Let’s dive into making this unique and satisfying ramen!
Ingredients- 1 packet of ramen noodles (Jin Ramen Spicy recommended)
- 7 fresh oysters
- 1 handful of sliced green onions
- 1/2 Tbsp red pepper flakes (gochugaru)
- Pinch of black pepper
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
When cooking ramen, it’s best to follow the instructions on the package. For Jin Ramen Spicy, the directions suggest boiling 550ml of water, adding the dried vegetable mix, then adding the soup base and noodles, and simmering for 4 minutes. Bring the water to a rolling boil, then add the soup base, dried vegetables, and noodles. Set a timer for 4 minutes. Getting the water ratio right and cooking for the correct time is key to preventing soggy noodles or a watery broth.
Step 2
About 2 minutes into the boiling time, add the cleaned fresh oysters. Adding them too early can cause them to shrink and become mushy. Adding them too late might not allow their flavor to fully infuse the broth. Adding them around the halfway mark (2 minutes into cooking) is ideal for preserving their plump texture and briny taste.
Step 3
As the oysters cook, a delightful aroma of the sea mingles with the savory scent of the ramen. After about 3 minutes of cooking, stir in the sliced green onions and the 1/2 Tbsp of red pepper flakes. Finally, add a pinch of black pepper. This not only enhances the flavor but also helps to cut through any potential gaminess from the oysters, adding a pleasant subtle heat. The resulting aroma is surprisingly pleasant and inviting!
