Introducing the ‘Papa Skokko Chicken Skewers’ recipe, perfect as a delightful snack for kids or a savory accompaniment with drinks for adult gatherings. While the red paprika powder didn’t quite deliver the vibrant red color I expected, turning a lovely brown instead, it imparts a subtle, savory paprika flavor that enhances the overall taste. It genuinely tastes like something you’d get from a specialty shop! With tender chicken breast, crisp green onions, and that hint of paprika, these skewers are an exceptional choice for any special occasion.

Main Ingredients

  • 3 chicken breasts
  • 1 medium green onion (scallion)
  • 30g (approx. 3 Tbsp) store-bought cream soup powder
  • 15g (approx. 1.5 Tbsp) red paprika powder
  • 15g (approx. 1.5 Tbsp) cornstarch

Seasoning & Coating

  • Pinch of black pepper
  • Pinch of herb salt
  • 1 Tbsp cooking oil

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, gather all the ingredients for the recipe. Don’t forget the cornstarch, green onion, cooking oil, and the skewers for the chicken. Soaking the skewers in water for about 10 minutes before use will help prevent them from burning while cooking.

Step 1

Step 2

Cut the chicken breasts into bite-sized pieces, about 2-3 cm each. Place the cut chicken in a bowl and gently massage it with black pepper, herb salt, and 1 tablespoon of cooking oil. This marinating step will help the chicken stay moist and tender.

Step 2

Step 3

Prepare the marinated chicken and the coating mixture. ♤ If you don’t have red paprika powder, you can use gochugaru (Korean chili flakes) that’s used for side dishes. If using gochugaru, grind it finely in a blender or grinder and add about half a tablespoon. (Caution: Adding too much may make it spicy.)

Step 3

Step 4

In a separate bowl, combine the coating ingredients: the store-bought cream soup powder, red paprika powder, and cornstarch. Mix them thoroughly.

Step 4

Step 5

Add the marinated chicken pieces to the mixed coating powder. Ensure that the powder adheres evenly and thoroughly to every piece of chicken. Gently toss and coat each piece well for the best texture.

Step 5

Step 6

You’ll notice that the red paprika powder gives the coating a brown hue rather than a vibrant red. Don’t worry! When you taste it, you’ll discover a delightful savory flavor with a subtle hint of paprika that truly elevates the dish. This unique taste makes the skewers taste exceptionally good, almost like they’re from a gourmet shop.

Step 6

Step 7

Thread the coated chicken pieces and the roughly chopped green onion onto the soaked skewers, alternating between them. Let the assembled skewers sit for about 10 minutes. This resting period allows the coating to slightly moisten and adhere better to the chicken before cooking.

Step 7

Step 8

Now it’s time to cook the skewers! I used a grill, but you can also use your oven, air fryer, or a frying pan – whatever kitchen appliance you have. ♤ Since we added oil during the marinating step, you don’t need to add extra oil when cooking. If using a frying pan, cook over low heat to prevent burning.

Step 8

Step 9

Grill the skewers for 15 minutes, then flip them over and cook for an additional 5 minutes. This cooking time will result in skewers that are crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. Adjust the cooking time based on your specific appliance.
