A beloved side dish for kids and adults alike, pan-fried potatoes are incredibly simple to make and astonishingly quick! Not to mention, they taste fantastic. This recipe guarantees success every time.
Main Ingredients
- 3 medium potatoes
- 1/2 small onion
- 1/2 green chili pepper
- 1/2 red chili pepper
Seasoning
- A little cooking oil
- Salt
- 1/3 tsp seasoned salt (optional)
- A little sesame seeds
- A little cooking oil
- Salt
- 1/3 tsp seasoned salt (optional)
- A little sesame seeds
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, thoroughly wash and peel 3 medium potatoes. Prepare half a small onion. For the chili peppers, remove the seeds from half a green chili and half a red chili, then slice them thinly. Having all your ingredients prepped makes cooking much smoother.
Step 2
Slice the peeled potatoes into thin strips, like matchsticks. Place the sliced potatoes in a bowl of cold water for about 10 minutes to remove excess starch. This step is crucial as it prevents the potato slices from sticking together when stir-frying, ensuring a delightfully separate texture. Drain them completely right before cooking.
Step 3
Heat a skillet or frying pan over medium heat and add a generous amount of cooking oil. Add the drained potato strips and begin to stir-fry. Once the potatoes start to turn translucent and cook through, season with salt or 1/3 teaspoon of seasoned salt. When the potatoes are almost tender, add the sliced onion and continue to sauté until the onion softens.
Step 4
Once the onions are softened and translucent, add the sliced green and red chili peppers to the pan. Increase the heat to high and stir-fry quickly for about 1-2 minutes. Chilies cook fast and can become mushy if overcooked, so a quick stir-fry preserves their vibrant color and crispness. Finish by sprinkling a little toasted sesame seeds over the top. Your delicious pan-fried potatoes are ready! See how easy that was?
