Here’s a recipe for a simple yet delicious lunchbox, perfect for picnics or outings! It features crowd-pleasing tuna mayo rice balls, fluffy rolled omelet, and savory sausages for a satisfying and convenient meal. 🙂
Main Ingredients- 1 bowl of cooked rice
- 1 can of tuna (approx. 150g)
- 1/4 onion
- 2 eggs
- A few sausages (to taste)
Seasonings & Others- 2-3 pinches of salt
- 3-4 Tbsp mayonnaise
- A little sesame seeds
- A little cooking oil or butter
- 2-3 pinches of salt
- 3-4 Tbsp mayonnaise
- A little sesame seeds
- A little cooking oil or butter
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Let’s start by preparing the ingredients for our delicious lunchbox! Finely chop the onion to enhance the flavor of the tuna rice balls. Adding onion brings a refreshing crispness and delightful texture!
Step 2
Drain the oil completely from the canned tuna using a sieve. This step prevents the rice from becoming mushy and helps remove any fishy odor. In a bowl, combine the drained tuna, chopped onion, and 3-4 tablespoons of mayonnaise. Mix well. Using a generous amount of mayonnaise will ensure a moist and creamy tuna filling.
Step 3
For the rolled omelet, crack 2 eggs into a bowl. Add a pinch of salt and whisk them until smooth. Removing the chalaza (the stringy part) will result in a silkier omelet.
Step 4
Heat a non-stick pan over medium heat and add a little cooking oil or butter. Pour a thin layer of the whisked egg mixture to start making the rolled omelet. Pour and roll the egg in 2-3 additions rather than all at once to create a beautiful, layered omelet. (Tip: If the pan is too hot, the egg will cook too quickly and stick. Adjust the heat accordingly!)
Step 5
Briefly blanch the sausages in boiling water for about 1-2 minutes. This helps to remove excess oil and gives the sausages a firmer, more pleasant texture. (Note: You can score the sausages lightly before blanching for a decorative touch.)
Step 6
In the cooked rice, sprinkle sesame seeds and add two pinches of salt. Season the rice well. If you have sesame oil or perilla oil, a drizzle will add wonderful aroma and flavor! (It’s okay to skip this if you don’t have it.)
Step 7
Spread the seasoned rice thinly on a flat plate or parchment paper. Place a generous portion of the prepared tuna mayo mixture in the center. Gently shape the rice around the filling, closing the edges to form a round rice ball. Don’t be shy with the filling; more is more!
Step 8
We’re almost done! Arrange the molded tuna rice balls, the blanched and sliced sausages, and the completed rolled omelet on a plate.
Step 9
Finally, pack all the prepared components neatly into your lunchbox. Your delightful outing lunchbox is now complete! Enjoy your meal and have a wonderful time!
