Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, let’s prepare the water for boiling our eggs. Fill a pot with cold water, ensuring there’s enough to fully submerge the eggs. Add 1 tablespoon of coarse salt to the water.

Step 1

Step 2

Today, I’m using about 4 fresh eggs. A crucial tip for boiling eggs successfully: always start with cold water and bring it to a boil with the eggs already inside. Placing eggs directly into boiling water can cause them to crack due to the sudden temperature change.

Step 2

Step 3

Make sure to add enough water so the eggs are completely covered. This ensures even cooking. You don’t need to stir in the salt; it will dissolve naturally as the water heats up. Adding salt helps to make peeling the eggs much easier later on.

Step 3

Step 4

Once the water reaches a rolling boil, reduce the heat to medium. If you want the yolk perfectly centered, you can gently swirl the eggs in one direction with chopsticks or a spoon while they cook.

Step 4

Step 5

Now, for the most important part: the cooking times! Start timing as soon as the water begins to boil vigorously. For a soft-boiled egg with a runny yolk, aim for about 6 to 7 minutes. For a fully cooked, firm hard-boiled egg, cook for about 12 to 13 minutes.

Step 5

Step 6

I prefer my eggs hard-boiled, so I took them out after 13 minutes and immediately plunged them into ice-cold water. Shocking the eggs in cold water helps the shell separate cleanly and makes peeling much easier. Did you know this trick?

Step 6

Step 7

After rinsing them in cold water, you can let them sit in the cold water for a little longer if you have the time. This helps them cool down further and makes peeling even smoother.

Step 7

Step 8

To peel the eggs easily, gently tap and roll each egg on a flat surface to crack the shell all over. Then, you should be able to peel the shell off in large, clean pieces. It’s almost magical!
