Perfectly Creamy Potato Salad
Mastering Boiled Potatoes: 2 Quick Methods (Microwave & Steamer) & Freezing Tips
Hello everyone! Potatoes are such a versatile vegetable, perfect for salads, side dishes, and even pizza toppings. In this post, I’m excited to share two fantastic methods for boiling potatoes: using the microwave for speed and a steamer for a gentle cook. We’ll also cover how to store your perfectly steamed potatoes to keep them fresh for longer. Get ready to elevate your potato game!
Main Ingredients- 10 potatoes
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Since potatoes often have soil clinging to them, start by thoroughly washing them with a scrub brush. This ensures a clean base, especially if you plan to use the skin.
Step 2
Let’s try the quick microwave method! Place 6 potatoes into a microwave-safe container (I love using my ‘Healing 3-Minute Magic Cup’ for this). Microwave on high for 10 minutes.
Step 3
Repeat the process with the remaining 4 potatoes. Place them in the same microwave-safe container and microwave on high for another 10 minutes.
Step 4
Voilà! In just 20 minutes using the microwave, all 10 potatoes are steamed to fluffy perfection. They’re now ready for your delicious salad.
Step 5
Now, let’s steam a larger batch using a pot steamer. We’ll use 15 potatoes this time. As before, begin by washing them thoroughly to remove any dirt.
Step 6
I’m using my trusty large stainless steel steamer basket, the same one I use for making ‘ssukbeori’ rice cakes. Place the steamer rack (tripod stand) inside the pot, and arrange the washed potatoes on top.
Step 7
Pour water into the steamer pot, ensuring the water level is below the potatoes so they steam rather than boil. Cover with a lid and steam over medium heat for about 40 minutes. Steaming longer will result in even softer potatoes.
Step 8
Once steamed, cover the hot potatoes with a tea towel or clean cloth and let them cool gradually. This method helps to keep the potatoes moist inside.
Step 9
After the potatoes have cooled completely, place them in a freezer-safe bag. You can store them whole or cut them into desired sizes. This makes them convenient to use for salads, stir-fries, soups, and more whenever you need them!
