  • 12 medium shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1 bunch Korean leeks (dallae)
  • 1/2 cup pancake mix (buchim garu)
  • 1 large egg
  • 50-60ml water (adjust for batter consistency)
  • 1/2 red chili pepper, thinly sliced (optional)
  • Vegetable oil, for cooking

Cooking Instructions

First, thaw the frozen shrimp if using. Once thawed, carefully remove the shells and tails. Rinse them thoroughly to ensure they are clean and ready for cooking.

Prepare the Korean leeks (dallae) by trimming off any tough root ends and rinsing them well under running water. Bunch together 3-4 stalks at a time and shape them into a wreath-like circle. This decorative shape will make the pancakes visually appealing.

In a mixing bowl, combine the pancake mix and the egg. Gradually add water, starting with 50ml, and whisk until you achieve a smooth, thin batter. Adjust the water amount to reach a consistency that flows easily but isn’t too watery.

Heat a generous amount of vegetable oil in a non-stick pan over medium heat. Gently dip each wreath-shaped dallae bundle into the batter, ensuring it’s lightly coated, then carefully place it onto the hot pan. Try to maintain the wreath shape as you place it.
