- Gochujang (Korean chili paste) 1/2 Tbsp (Ts)
- Sesame Oil 1 Tbsp (Ts)
- Butter or Margarine 1 Tsp (ts)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, let’s prepare the pork. Take about 100g of thinly sliced pork, similar to bulgogi cut, and slice it into bite-sized pieces. Cutting it thinly ensures it cooks quickly and evenly.
Step 2
Next, prepare the kimchi. Chop about 100g of well-fermented kimchi into small pieces, similar in size to the pork. This will help all the ingredients combine beautifully when stir-frying.
Step 3
Now, heat your pan and let’s start stir-frying. Add 1 Tbsp of cooking oil and 1 tsp of butter or margarine to the pan and preheat over medium heat. Using butter or margarine adds a wonderful nutty flavor. Once the pan is hot, add the prepared pork and kimchi. Stir-fry them thoroughly until the pork is completely cooked through and the kimchi has softened, losing some of its sharp acidity.
Step 4
Once the pork and kimchi are nicely stir-fried, it’s time to add the rice and seasonings. Add 1 bowl (about 200g) of cooked rice to the pan. Use your spatula to break up any clumps of rice and mix it well with the other ingredients. Stir in 2 Tbsp of kimchi juice for an extra boost of savory flavor, and 1/2 Tbsp of gochujang for color and a mild spicy kick. Continue to stir-fry until everything is evenly combined. Finally, drizzle in 1 Tbsp of sesame oil for a fragrant finish and to adjust the taste.
Step 5
Let’s make a perfect sunny-side-up egg to top our fried rice. Lightly grease a small egg mold or a frying pan. Crack the egg into the mold or pan. Cook over low heat with a lid on. This gentle cooking method helps ensure the egg white is set while the yolk remains perfectly runny and golden.
Step 6
Finally, it’s time for plating! Serve the kimchi fried rice onto a nice plate. Garnish with small pieces of blanched broccoli for a pop of color and freshness. (For blanched broccoli, briefly boil it in water beforehand.) Crown your delicious creation with the beautifully cooked sunny-side-up egg. Your visually stunning and incredibly tasty Pork and Kimchi Fried Rice is now ready to be enjoyed! ^^
