Main Ingredients
- Sea Tangle (salt-preserved) – 2 handfuls (approx. 200g)
- Carrot – 1/3
- Onion – 1/2
- Korean Green Chili Pepper – 1 (optional)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Rinse the salt-preserved sea tangle thoroughly under cold running water multiple times. It’s crucial to remove as much saltiness as possible. Continue rinsing until the water runs clear, then soak the sea tangle in cold water for at least 20 minutes to further leach out the salt. This step ensures a pleasant texture and reduces excessive saltiness.
Step 2
After cleaning, gently squeeze out excess water from the sea tangle. Cut it into bite-sized pieces, about 8cm long. Heat a non-stick pan over medium heat and add 2 Tbsp of cooking oil and 1 Tbsp of perilla oil. Add the prepared sea tangle and stir-fry for a few minutes until it becomes slightly tender and chewy.
Step 3
While stir-frying the sea tangle, add the prepared vegetables. Thinly slice 1/3 carrot and 1/2 onion into long strips. Add 1 Tbsp of minced garlic along with the vegetables. Continue to stir-fry until the vegetables are slightly softened, allowing the garlic aroma to bloom.
Step 4
For a touch of spice, thinly slice 1 Korean green chili pepper diagonally and add it to the pan. If you prefer a milder dish or are cooking for children, you can omit the chili pepper or use a milder variety. Stir-fry everything together until the chili pepper is fragrant.
Step 5
Season the dish with 1 Tbsp of soy sauce (for soup) to taste. Stir-fry for another 1-2 minutes over medium heat to allow the flavors to meld. Just before turning off the heat, sprinkle generously with 2 Tbsp of sesame seeds for added nutty flavor and stir to combine. Your delicious stir-fried sea tangle is now ready! It can be enjoyed warm or cooled as a refreshing side dish.
