Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, prepare the star of our dish: 2 sheets of square fish cake. The quality of the fish cake is key to the flavor of this rice bowl, so choose a good one!
Step 2
Next, get your 1/4 medium onion ready. The onion will add sweetness and depth to the overall flavor profile.
Step 3
Finely chop the fish cakes and the onion. Since we’ll be mixing this with rice, chopping them into small, bite-sized pieces will help the seasoning distribute evenly and make each bite more flavorful.
Step 4
Finally, finely slice a small amount of green onion. The aromatic green onion will enhance the savory notes of the fish cake.
Step 5
Now, let’s get cooking! Lightly oil a pan and add the chopped fish cakes and onion. Sauté over medium-low heat until the onion becomes translucent. Be careful not to burn the ingredients.
Step 6
Once the ingredients are softened, turn off the heat temporarily. This is the perfect time to add 2 tablespoons of gochujang. Adding it off the heat prevents the paste from burning and ensures it coats the ingredients evenly.
Step 7
After adding the gochujang, mix in 0.5 tablespoon of sugar and a pinch of toasted sesame seeds. Stir everything together thoroughly with a spoon or spatula until the seasoning is well combined with the fish cake and onion. Then, turn the heat back on to medium and stir-fry for about another minute. You just want to quickly toss it, as overcooking can make the fish cake tough.
Step 8
Your delicious stir-fried fish cake is ready! Serve it generously over a bowl of warm rice for a satisfying and complete meal.
Step 9
Top your warm rice with the prepared fish cake mixture. A drizzle of sesame oil before mixing will take it to the next level – pure deliciousness! This is also a great side dish for kids, and it’s super convenient to make onigiri (rice balls) or fried rice. On days when you don’t feel like a fuss, this fish cake rice bowl is the perfect simple and tasty solution!
