Hello everyone! Today, we’re making a crowd-pleasing favorite, tuna mayo rice balls. Rice balls are incredibly convenient to eat, and they can easily make a satisfying meal without needing any side dishes. You can mix the rice and filling together and roll them into balls, or flatten the rice, fill it, and then shape it into delicious rice balls. They are surprisingly simple and easy to make, making them a great recipe for busy days. Let’s get started on these yummy tuna mayo rice balls!
Ingredients
- 1 bowl of warm cooked rice (approx. 200g)
- 1 small can of tuna, drained (approx. 100g)
- 2 Tbsp Mayonnaise
- 1 Tbsp Sesame Oil
- 1 sheet of toasted seaweed
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
In a bowl of warm cooked rice, add 1 tablespoon of sesame oil and mix gently to ensure the oil is evenly distributed. Meanwhile, drain the tuna thoroughly from its oil. In a separate bowl, combine the drained tuna with 2 tablespoons of mayonnaise and mix well with a fork until thoroughly combined.
Step 2
Lightly toast the roasted seaweed sheet over a flame until crisp, then place it in a plastic bag and crush it finely into flakes using your hands or a rolling pin. Take about a handful of the sesame oil-mixed rice and place it on your palm. Gently shape it into a round ball. Then, flatten the rice like making dumpling wrappers, making the edges slightly thicker and the center thinner. It’s important to keep a moderate thickness, about the size of your palm, as making it too thin might cause the filling to leak out. Apply just enough pressure so the rice grains adhere well, preventing the rice balls from falling apart later.
Step 3
Place about one spoonful of the tuna mayo mixture into the center of the flattened rice. Carefully enclose the filling with the rice, shaping it into a smooth ball. Be mindful not to overfill with the tuna mayo, as it can make shaping difficult. Ensure the rice layer is slightly thick rather than too thin, which makes it easier to form into a neat ball. Once it’s perfectly round, your basic rice ball is complete!
Step 4
Roll the finished rice balls in the prepared seaweed flakes until evenly coated. If the seaweed flakes don’t stick well, you can place the rice balls in a clean plastic bag, add a little air, and shake gently for even coating. If you don’t have roasted seaweed sheets, you can also use store-bought seasoned seaweed flakes. Enjoy these delicious tuna mayo rice balls! If you have any leftover tuna mayo mixture, it’s also delicious mixed with plain rice.
