Looking for a quick and tasty bite before dinner? Here’s a recipe for ‘Sarada Buns’ that you can whip up in just 10 minutes using leftover ham and vegetables from your fridge. The combination of sweet and tangy salad with soft buns is delightful, and it’s a flavor everyone loves! Perfect for a kids’ snack or a light brunch.
Main Ingredients- 8 Morning Buns (or small soft rolls)
- 5 Tbsp Mayonnaise
- 1 Tbsp Oligosaccharide (or Sugar)
- Approx. 2 cups Cabbage (finely shredded)
- 1/3 Carrot (thinly julienned)
- 1/3 Apple (seeds removed, thinly julienned)
- 4 Imitation Crab Sticks (finely chopped)
- Ketchup, to taste (optional)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
The key to great salad buns is fresh vegetables! Feel free to use up any leftover veggies you have in the fridge. If you have cucumber or bell peppers, adding them will make your salad buns even more flavorful and satisfying.

Step 2
Finely julienne all ingredients except the buns (cabbage, carrot, apple, imitation crab sticks) and set them aside. Aim for thin strips to ensure a pleasant texture in the salad.

Step 3
Let’s make the salad dressing. In a bowl, combine the mayonnaise with 1 tablespoon of oligosaccharide or sugar and mix well. A touch of sweetness will significantly enhance the salad’s flavor. Adjust the sugar amount to your preference.

Step 4
Slice the morning buns in half horizontally. To make them even more delicious, lightly toast them in a pan or oven until warm. This will give them a slightly crisp exterior and a soft interior.

Step 5
While the buns are toasting, prepare the salad. Combine the julienned vegetables and imitation crab sticks in a bowl, add the prepared mayonnaise dressing, and toss gently to coat everything evenly.

Step 6
Adding apple to the salad provides a refreshing tanginess that makes it extra delicious. You can also try adding other fruits like pear or strawberries, finely diced, for a different twist.

Step 7
Toast the buns for about 5 minutes until warm. Lightly brush the surface of the toasted buns with butter for an enhanced aroma and a glossy finish. If you don’t have butter, you can skip this step, but a light spread of melted butter adds wonderful flavor.

Step 8
Generously fill one half of each warm bun with the prepared vegetable salad. Drizzle with ketchup, as requested by my son, for an extra touch kids will love! You can also add a bit of mustard if you like.

Step 9
And there you have it – quickly made salad buns! Though made in a flash using fridge staples, their taste is absolutely top-notch. They make a perfect snack that’s both visually appealing and delicious.

Step 10
For a prettier presentation, I dusted the buns with a sprinkle of powdered sugar. It’s funny, the buns took 10 minutes to make, but the photoshoot lasted over 10 minutes! Enjoy making these delightful salad buns.
