Cooking Instructions

Step 1

Hello everyone! Today, I’ll share a super easy and quick recipe for spicy Yukgaejang using store-bought Seolleongtang broth. You can enjoy a deeply flavorful Yukgaejang at home without any complicated steps.

Step 1

Step 2

First, pour the store-bought Seolleongtang broth into a pot and heat it over medium heat until it begins to simmer. Preheating the broth like this allows for quicker cooking when you add the other ingredients and enhances the depth of flavor.

Step 2

Step 3

Next, prepare the green onions. Wash them thoroughly, pat them dry, and then cut them into roughly 5-7cm lengths, keeping the white parts as long as possible. Cutting them too short can cause them to break apart during cooking, so it’s best to keep them somewhat long for presentation.

Step 3

Step 4

In a deep pan or pot, add a generous amount of cooking oil. Add the sliced green onions and the 10 whole garlic cloves, then sauté over medium-low heat. Cook until the green onions soften and become fragrant. Once aromatic, add 2 tablespoons of gochugaru (Korean chili flakes) and stir-fry over low heat, being careful not to burn the chili powder. Stir-frying this way removes any raw taste from the chili flakes and significantly enhances the umami flavor and color.

Step 4

Step 5

Pour the preheated Seolleongtang broth into the pan with the sautéed green onions and chili mixture. Bring to a boil over high heat. Once the broth is bubbling vigorously, reduce the heat to medium and let it simmer for about 5-7 minutes, or until the green onions are tender. Taste the broth and add a pinch of coarse sea salt if needed to adjust the seasoning.

Step 5

Step 6

Voila! Your delicious and spicy Yukgaejang is ready with minimal effort. The rich Seolleongtang broth base combined with the well-sauteed green onions and chili seasoning creates a wonderfully deep flavor. Enjoy this hearty dish with a bowl of hot rice!
