Ingredients

  • 300ml Red Wine (a fruity, affordable wine is recommended)
  • 1 Tbsp Baking Soda (for washing fruits)
  • 1/2 Apple
  • 2 Oranges/Tangerines
  • 2 Strawberries
  • 6 Tbsp Lemon Syrup (or store-bought lemon syrup)
  • 300ml Cider/Sparkling Water

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

Since we’ll be using the fruit peels, wash them thoroughly with baking soda to ensure they are clean and free from any residue or dirt. This step is crucial for consuming the fruit with its skin.

Step 1

Step 2

Place the washed fruits in a bowl, add water, and dissolve 1 tablespoon of baking soda. Let the fruits soak for about 5 minutes. This ensures an extra level of cleanliness.

Step 2

Step 3

While oranges, lemons, and apples are traditionally considered base fruits for great sangria, don’t worry if you don’t have them all! You can absolutely create a delicious sangria with the fruits you have on hand. Feel free to skip any you don’t have.

Step 3

Step 4

Cut the prepared apple, tangerines, and strawberries into bite-sized pieces or your desired shapes. Slicing them thinly or dicing them works well. The type and cut of fruit will influence the visual appeal and taste of your sangria, so prepare them according to your preference.

Step 4

Step 5

Take a clean, sterilized glass jar or pitcher. Arrange the cut fruits inside. Instead of fresh lemons, I’ve added homemade lemon syrup and preserved lemon slices for an extra layer of zesty flavor. Store-bought lemon syrup is also a great option.

Step 5

Step 6

Pour the red wine into the jar with the fruits. It’s best to use an affordable, slightly sweet wine rather than a heavy, expensive one, as this allows the natural fruit flavors to shine through and creates a more balanced taste.

Step 6

Step 7

Finally, top up the jar with chilled cider or sparkling water. The carbonation will add a refreshing lift to the sangria.

Step 7

Step 8

Congratulations! Your super simple homemade sangria is ready. It’s incredibly easy to make a wonderful drink with just a few steps.

Step 8

Step 9

You can enjoy your sangria immediately after making it, but for an even richer and more developed flavor, let it chill in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours, or preferably overnight. This allows the flavors to meld beautifully.
