Ingredients

  • 1 Lime
  • White Rum (adjust to taste)
  • 2 handfuls of fresh Apple Mint
  • 1 Tbsp Sugar (or simple syrup, mint syrup)
  • Sparkling Water (chilled)
  • Crushed ice or ice cubes (fill generously)

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

Prepare about two handfuls of fresh apple mint leaves. If the mint looks a little wilted, you can revive it by soaking it in ice-cold water for a few minutes before using. This will make it more fragrant and vibrant.

Step 1

Step 2

Wash the lime thoroughly. To make juicing easier, cut it into 2-3 wedges, leaving the center part intact.

Step 2

Step 3

Place about half of a lime wedge into your serving glass, and add half a tablespoon to one tablespoon of sugar (adjust sweetness as desired). You can also substitute sugar with simple syrup or mint syrup. Using a long muddler or spoon handle, gently press and twist the lime wedges to release their juice. Continue to muddle the lime and sugar until the sugar begins to dissolve.

Step 3

Step 4

Once the lime juice has been sufficiently extracted and the sugar has started to dissolve, releasing a sweet aroma, proceed to the next step.

Step 4

Step 5

Prepare your rum. It’s important to adjust the amount based on the type and alcohol content of the rum you’re using. For instance, if using a high-proof rum like Bacardi 151, use significantly less than you would with regular rum. For standard white rum, about 1.5 to 2 ounces (45-60 ml) is usually appropriate.

Step 5

Step 6

Add the rum to the glass. Fill the glass generously with crushed ice or ice cubes. Add the prepared apple mint leaves. Finally, top off the glass with chilled sparkling water. Gently stir as if you were a bartender to combine all the ingredients. Garnish with fresh mint sprigs or a lime slice for a beautifully presented Mojito!
