Main Ingredients- 20g dried seaweed (about 1 handful)
- 1/3 onion
- 1/2 cucumber
- 1/4 carrot
Dressing- 2 Tbsp gochujang (Korean chili paste)
- 1/2 Tbsp minced garlic
- 1 Tbsp vinegar
- 1 Tbsp carbonated water (or plain water)
- 2 Tbsp sugar
- A pinch of sesame seeds
- 2 Tbsp gochujang (Korean chili paste)
- 1/2 Tbsp minced garlic
- 1 Tbsp vinegar
- 1 Tbsp carbonated water (or plain water)
- 2 Tbsp sugar
- A pinch of sesame seeds
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Soak the dried seaweed in cold water for about 10 minutes. Avoid soaking for too long, as it can become excessively slimy. Cut seaweed rehydrates quickly, so a short soak is sufficient. Squeeze out excess water once rehydrated.
Step 2
Briefly blanch the rehydrated seaweed in boiling water for about 10 seconds. This quick blanching helps to achieve a wonderfully chewy and crisp texture.
Step 3
Immediately rinse the blanched seaweed under cold running water to stop the cooking process. Drain well, preferably in a colander, ensuring all excess water is removed. This prevents the salad from becoming watery.
Step 4
Slice the cucumber into half-moon shapes. Cut the carrot into similar-sized half-moon slices. Thinly slice the onion. Ensuring the vegetables are cut into uniform sizes will help them mix evenly with the dressing.
Step 5
In a bowl, combine all the dressing ingredients: gochujang, minced garlic, vinegar, sugar, carbonated water (or plain water), and sesame seeds. Whisk until the sugar is dissolved and the dressing is well combined.
Step 6
Place the prepared seaweed, cucumber, onion, and carrot in a large mixing bowl. Pour the prepared dressing over the ingredients.
Step 7
Gently toss all the ingredients together with your hands or a spatula until everything is evenly coated with the dressing. Be careful not to overmix, which could break down the vegetables.
Step 8
The tangy and sweet dressing is the star of this dish, perfectly stimulating your appetite! Feel free to adjust the amounts of vinegar and sugar to suit your personal taste. This salad is delicious served immediately, or chilled in the refrigerator for a more refreshing experience.
