Whip up a Quick Tuna Salad with Canned Tuna from Your Pantry!
Here’s a super simple tuna salad recipe that’s perfect as a special side dish when you’re not feeling very hungry. It’s incredibly delicious served over rice or wrapped in warm seaweed! It’s appealing because anyone can easily follow along, even if it’s not a special occasion.
Ingredients- 1/2 Onion
- 1 can Tuna (135g)
- 1 Tbsp Sesame Oil
- 1 Tbsp Minced Garlic
- 1 Tbsp Fine Gochugaru (Korean chili flakes)
- 1 Tbsp Tuna Extract (or fish sauce)
- 1 Tbsp Soy Sauce
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, finely mince 1/2 onion. It’s best to mince it to a size that will blend well with the salad, not too chunky.
Step 2
Soak the minced onion in cold water for about 10 minutes. This step effectively removes the pungent and sharp taste characteristic of onions, allowing you to enjoy a smoother and more delicious flavor.
Step 3
After 10 minutes, drain the minced onion from the cold water using a sieve, making sure to remove all excess moisture. It’s important to squeeze out any remaining water, as it can dilute the dressing’s flavor.
Step 4
Open the canned tuna and drain off the oil thoroughly using a sieve. If there’s too much residual oil, the salad can taste greasy. A good tip is to gently press down on the tuna with a spoon to remove more oil.
Step 5
Now it’s time to mix all the ingredients for a delicious salad! In a large bowl, combine the drained minced onion, oil-free tuna, 1 Tbsp sesame oil, 1 Tbsp minced garlic, 1 Tbsp fine gochugaru, 1 Tbsp tuna extract (or fish sauce), and 1 Tbsp soy sauce. Gently mix everything together with a spatula or spoon, being careful not to mash the ingredients. Taste and adjust seasoning if needed by adding a little more soy sauce if it’s too bland. Your flavorful tuna salad is ready!
