Main Ingredients

  • 1 pack Gomtang and Oxtail Soup (store-bought)
  • 1 piece Daikon radish (approx. 50g)
  • 1 stalk Green onion
  • 1 serving Rice cake slices for soup (tteokguk tteok) (approx. 100g)

Seasoning

  • Salt to taste (adjust as needed)

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, prepare the daikon radish, which will add a refreshing flavor to the soup. Slice the daikon thinly and flat, about 0.5cm thick. If your rice cakes are frozen, soak them in cold water to thaw. Stir them occasionally to prevent sticking.

Step 1

Step 2

In a pot, combine the prepared daikon radish and 1 pack of store-bought Gomtang and Oxtail Soup. Bring to a simmer over medium heat. Once boiling, reduce the heat slightly and simmer for about 5-7 minutes, or until the daikon becomes translucent and tender. Stir occasionally to help the dogani and oxtail soften nicely.

Step 2

Step 3

Separate the white and green parts of the green onion. Slice the white part diagonally or lengthwise and add it to the pot. Let it simmer for another 2-3 minutes until the broth reboils, allowing the refreshing aroma of the green onion to infuse the soup.

Step 3

Step 4

Add the thawed rice cake slices to the pot and cook for another 2-3 minutes until they are soft and chewy. Frozen rice cakes may take a little longer to cook than room-temperature ones, so check their texture and adjust the cooking time accordingly. It’s important to stir gently to prevent the rice cakes from sticking to the bottom.

Step 4

Step 5

Finally, once the rice cakes are cooked, garnish with the finely chopped green parts of the green onion. Season with salt to your preference. Ladle into bowls and enjoy your deeply flavored Dogani and Oxtail Tteokguk. Enjoy this freshly made, comforting soup!
